Sorry everyone, but I feel it’s necessary to put a post on about pricing.
Since starting my business 6 years ago, I have always been very competitive on the cost of grooms. I made the fatal mistake, as I’m sure most groomers do when setting up, of pricing too low. As I found out, with the costs involved in running a business, this cannot be sustained over time, and consequently I have gradually over the years brought my prices up to the levels of other groomers within the area. I am very conscious of the increases in cost of living for us all, and for this reason avoid increasing prices on a yearly basis. However, a few customers have seen their grooms increase a couple of times over the last year and a half to bring them in line with what everyone else is paying.
It is therefore extremely disheartening when a long standing customer decides to shop around for a cheaper groomer, for the sake of an extra 62p a week on the cost of the groom, which at the end of the day should have been at that price over a year ago! I’m at a loss to be honest, but most of all sad to lose the dog who I have been grooming since a puppy. It is certainly not in his best interests. Dogs gain trust in their groomers, and I love the dogs as if they were my own. Telling other groomers the price has increased twice in 6 months is a blatant lie, the last increase was February 2024.
I am very transparent with my pricing and am happy to discuss with anyone if asked. Aside from the initial set up costs of the business, equipment and tools for the job are expensive, and require regular maintenance and renewal. Along with everything else, the high end products I use and the cost of sharpening blades/scissors has increased. My pricing has to take this into account, otherwise I am constantly covering the shortfall.
Much as I love my job, this isn’t a hobby, it is my business, my only source of income. If I could do it for free, I would, but unfortunately I have a mortgage and bills to pay and a teenager who eats me out of house and home.
Thank you to all my loyal customers who have supported my business over the years, it is appreciated so much ###
