🎄🎶It’s beginning to look a lot like…yellow Labrador day at the practice! 🐾💛

Joyful Jessie was all wags on arrival for her first visit to Fitzpatricks to see Specialist James Guthrie about stem cell therapy, and was only too happy to pose by our Christmas tree! 🎄

Meanwhile in prep, RVN Kate is pictured comforting lovely Lab Ellie, who’s also visiting us for stem cell therapy. And in the background, you might spot a very sleepy and very sweet boy, Oscar, gently waking up after his recheck x-rays for his SHO (sliding humeral osteotomy) procedure. 😊

To our friends in the local community. Are you having a clear-out of old towels?

Our kennels team is happy to take donations of large towels to help keep our patients comfortable during their hospital stay with us, like Toddy here.

If you have some you no longer need, we will happily give them a second life.

Please drop them up at our practice - Fitzpatrick Referrals, Halfway Lane, Eashing GU7 2QQ. Our reception is open from 8am-8.30pm Mon-Fri, 8.30am-4.30pm Sat, 10am-4.30pm Sun.

Many thanks in advance. 💙♻️

I’ve operated on hundreds of Dachshunds with spinal disc problems — but no two are ever the same. Truffle’s case was particularly unusual because his issue was in the neck, rather than the back, which is where these problems most often occur.

It’s an immense privilege to dedicate my life to helping others, both animals and their humans. I never stop being amazed by the power of surgery — even a relatively simple procedure can change, or even save, a life.

The key is always to act quickly, before the damage becomes irreversible and causes total paralysis, and Fitzpatrick Referrals is open to all if you ever have concerns for your animal friend. Anyone can refer to us; you just need to ask x

16-month-old Rottweiler, Grace, visits Professor Noel Fitzpatrick with lameness affecting both back legs. She is diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) which is a degenerative disease that can develop in dogs' ankle (hock) joints from a young age and leaves sufferers increasingly lame and often in significant pain.

Grace, like many dogs, hid the pain and got on with life for as long as she could until the pain and lameness overtook her. Noel recommends Grace's ankles are fused solid. For many families, one joint fusion is a scary thought, let alone two in such a young dog.

To improve the chances of success Noel offers the family a custom-made implant, which he has developed to overcome many of the failure mechanisms he has experienced with other implants used for this purpose. Whether the operations will be successful or not however, only time will tell.

To help us celebrate World Radiography Day 2025, we enlisted some of our much-loved staff dogs who’ve received specialist treatment at Fitzpatrick Referrals, to help show how different imaging options (MRI, CT, x-rays and dental x-rays) helped us to diagnose their conditions, plan treatment and assess them postoperatively.

🐶 Neurologist Nadia’s dog Nico was referred for a CT as part of investigations into his right carpal (wrist) laxity and custom implant planning.

🐶 RVN Sam’s dog Bryn needed an emergency MRI scan when he suddenly lost the use of his legs.

🐶 Radiograph Assistant Ellie’s dog Max underwent dental radiographs following a fractured tooth & during his root canal procedure.

🐶 Surgical Technician Kirsty’s dog Rosey needed pre- and post-op radiographs as part of the diagnosis and treatment of her hip dysplasia.

Swipe through to see their imaging photos!
