Vets and vet nurses! Don’t miss our upcoming (in-person) CPD evening with specialists Katia Marioni-Henry and James Guthrie on Tues 8th July.

🐾 Join Katia for an interactive dive into feline neurology! 🐈

Step into the fascinating world of feline neurology through an engaging, hands-on case discussion featuring real patient videos. From the commonly seen to the truly puzzling, Katia will work through a variety of neurological cases that will challenge your clinical thinking and sharpen your diagnostic skills.

Katia has over 25 years of experience in feline neurology, so this session brings the insights of a true expert who has dedicated her career to working with cats affected by neurological conditions. You’ll benefit from decades of clinical knowledge, practical strategies, and a deep passion for feline neurological care.

During this session, you’ll actively practise how to:

🔸Spot subtle and obvious neurological abnormalities in cats.
🔸Pinpoint lesion locations using your exam findings.
🔸Build smart, prioritised differential lists based on patient signalment and history.
🔸Explore diagnostic and treatment strategies - especially in real-world situations where budget matters.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just diving into neurology, this session is designed to enhance your confidence and clinical acumen with feline patients.

Did you know we now offer a referral dentistry service? Since January, we’ve been helping a host of lovely patients with both complex and more routine dental and oral conditions.

Such as little Chihuahua cross Estella, who even helped supervise her report being written with Dentistry, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Registrar Hannah! She also lapped up the fuss from Dental RVN Jess. 💙

Fabulous eyebrows. Fabulous beard… and no, I don’t mean me. Meet Ada!

Unfortunately her front left leg was a bit wonky, which is why this wonderful meeting happened - Ada also happens to be the canine friend of the lead nurse on my advanced surgical team. No pressure right?

Ada was affected by antebrachial growth deformity and I performed a customised antebrachial growth deformity correction surgery, in this case, to realign the elbow relative to the carpus. I am happy to say, this was a success and both Ada and Amelia are happy.

Happy dog, happy mum. Happy nurse, happy surgeon! x

🎉🐾 Belated happy 18th birthday to Holly! 🐾🎉

This gorgeous golden girl has officially turned 18 this month, and we couldn't be more thrilled to celebrate such a special milestone! 💙

Holly is not just any golden retriever—she's a true legend and a much-loved regular at our hydrotherapy sessions. Her gentle spirit, wagging tail, and endless resilience continue to inspire everyone who meets her.

We're so proud to be a part of her journey and honoured to help keep her moving comfortably and happily in her golden years.

Please join us in wishing Holly the happiest of birthdays! 🥳🎂 Here's to many more tail wags, tummy rubs, and underwater treadmill sessions! 💦🐶

Lovely to welcome marvellous Moose back to the practice. As you can see, he received a warm welcome and plenty of fuss from our prep team! Two-year-old Irish Wolfhound Moose first visited our neurology team back in 2023 as a puppy! We hope Moose is doing better after his epidural injection. 💙

If you and your primary care vet feel that your animal friend has a condition which requires specialist expertise, or if you or your vet want a second opinion, then a referral is arranged.

You have the right to ask for a referral, and to specify where you want to be referred to.

A referral can only be made by your vet, and we work as partners in care with them to give your animal friend all the options. 👍

🩺 This month we’re celebrating the veterinary nurse…but did you know there are many, many roles and progression opportunities in referral nursing?

Student Veterinary Nurses (SVNs) - Our wonderful SVNs work in all areas of the hospital to enhance their learning; each have a clinical coach responsible for their practical training and for weekly 121s.

RVNs
- Wards/Prep/Rotational - Our wards team is focussed on patient care and providing gold standard nursing to our amazing patients. In prep the team is passionate about anaesthesia, enjoys seeing in our referrals and working up cases. Rotational nurses get the best of both worlds!
- Nights/Twilight - Our dedicated night team enable us to provide 24-hour care to patients. Our twilight team gain work in prep if we have emergencies or alongside our night team to care for inpatients.

Advanced Nurses
- Ortho/Neuro/Advanced ortho - This amazing team work directly with either our orthopaedic, neurological or advanced orthopaedic team, assisting the vets with client communication, triaging, anaesthesia and patient care.
- Dental - Our new dental nurse works alongside our dental vet and VCA, to see in referrals from start to finish! Their team is small but mighty!
- Advanced Training Nurse - Passionate about training our SVNs, they support all students and their coaches to ensure they get the most out of their nursing diploma, whilst also coaching her own students.
- Anaesthesia - Our fab anaesthesia nurses are a font of knowledge, working alongside our anaesthetist to create anaesthetic plans for all of our cases, whilst supporting nurses with any anaesthesia queries. They also provide regular in-house training to keep our team up-to-date with CPD.
- Admit/Discharge Nurse - Provides daily emotional updates to all of our patients’ families whilst also being responsible for admitting some of our cases and discharging patients when they are ready to go home postoperatively.

Clinical Nurse Leads (CNLs) - Our 5 CNLs each line manage their own group of nurses and VCAs whilst also remaining clinical. They’re experienced nurses who lead the team by motivating them to contribute to the practice objectives, as well as encouraging them to pursue their own professional goals.

Head Nurse – line manages her own team, whilst also overseeing the care of the whole nursing team. She also likes to maintain her clinical skills as she enjoys a mix of management and referral nursing.
