Heatstroke cases in pets are all too common; share the below far and wide!
Many dogs get heatstroke when their owners take them out during high temperatures. Let's prevent heatstroke by knowing when it's safe to take your dog outside, and please contact us if you think your dog might have heatstroke!
And remember to keep your pets hydrated and are given plenty of shade.
Enjoy the sunshine, but please keep tabs on your pets

Lovely Brinkley came to see us due to being acutely unwell with vomiting and blood in his urine. He was lethargic and felt very sorry for himself which is unusual at just 6 months old. He had some blood and urine tests which were largely ok except for indicating a bacterial infection in his urinary tract. There are occasions when we may suggest additional tests without expecting to find anything very unusual but as a way of ensuring that we aren’t missing something more major and this was the case for Brinkley. Whilst he started on treatment for a UTI we also recommended an unltrasound scan of his bladder and kidneys to ensure there weren’t any predisposing problems which might have caused him to have a UTI. We are very glad Brinkley’s owner also wanted to double check too because his scan showed some abnormalities in his urinary tract which then led us to recommending a CT scan to obtain as much information as possible. Brinkley has some developmental abnormalities which mean that one of his kidneys and his ureter are not properly formed/ placed and this has needed referral to specialists to further discuss options for treating Brinkley.
Brinkley was the bravest boy who enjoyed lots of fuss and cuddles with our nursing team whilst he awaited his CT scan. As part of Vet Nurse Awareness Month it’s an ideal time to share that those same nurses monitored his anaesthetic throughout the scan and operated the CT machine itself. Our nurses are an awesome, multi skilled bunch who are vital to the care of your pets. We thought you might like to see Brinkley with our nurses and having his scan. 😊
