Can we talk about social media and small businesses for a minute?

Because I am fu***ng tired.

Local Facebook groups used to be a fantastic way for small businesses to connect with their communities. Now it feels like you're constantly navigating a minefield.

👉🏼 Your post gets declined because apparently being 4 miles outside a very specific postcode boundary makes your service irrelevant.

👉🏼 Someone complains that your service isn't accessible to them because they don't drive... despite the fact that nobody is forcing them to buy it.

👉🏼 Every attempt at advertising is met with the inevitable:
"Every post is advertising these days."

Well... yes. It's a community full of local businesses trying to reach local people. What exactly were you expecting?

👉🏼 Then there's the endless debate about AI.
Use AI and apparently you're lazy.
Use AI and you're cheating.
Use AI and your business deserves to fail.

Meanwhile most small business owners are trying to do the jobs of marketer, accountant, customer service rep, admin assistant, content creator and business owner all at the same time.

👉🏼 And don't even get me started on pricing.
"How much?"
"Way too expensive."
"Ridiculously overpriced."

Usually from people who have absolutely no idea what goes into providing the service in the first place and had no intention of using the service, whatever the price.

👉🏼 Then there's the abuse.
Actual abuse.
My latest in a long line:
"You Facebook trainers need to f**k off."

Charming.

👉🏼 And in the dog training world, the constant aggression from balanced trainers towards force-free trainers never seems to stop either. Every conversation turns into a fight. Every educational post becomes an argument. Every attempt to discuss welfare becomes another opportunity for someone to tell you why punishment is the answer.

The reality is that most small business owners are just trying to make a living doing something they care about.

They're not faceless corporations.
They're not sitting on piles of cash.
They're not plotting how to annoy Facebook users.

They're trying to pay bills, support their families, and build something meaningful.

So if you're a fellow small business owner feeling worn down by the constant criticism, you're not alone.

Because some days social media feels less like marketing and more like standing in the town square while strangers throw tomatoes at you. 🍅

Busy day today with my two and their double appointment at Faith Referrals - Veterinary Pain Management and Rehabilitation

These are the gals Vanessa and I are forever recommending

It's been a BUSY day at BB HQ today 🤩 topped off with the final loose lead walking and recall class featuring guest dog Becky! Becky has been working through our Calm Canines Class but was absolutely smashing it so much that she got to level up 😁

She's a very special girl (currently in foster, but may have a forever home lined up!), she has had everyone fall in love with her over the last 6 weeks and here she is proudly showing off her certificate!

Your dog could be our next graduate 🤗
