Meet Charlie 🧡

Charlie spent the day with us for investigations and blood pressure monitoring, and we wanted to share a little glimpse of how we help keep our patients as comfortable and stress-free as possible during their visits.

We took things slowly and let Charlie set the pace, using our Doppler blood pressure monitor in a calm, comfortable environment. With plenty of reassurance, gentle handling and some yummy Lick-e-Lix to keep him occupied, he did brilliantly throughout the day!

By the end of his visit, Charlie was thoroughly enjoying some well-deserved cuddles with VCA Tiv. We are all so proud of him for being so brave!🧡

At Vet2Cat, we believe that taking things at each cat’s pace, listening to what they’re comfortable with and making their visit as positive as possible can make all the difference. Every cat is different, and we always do our best to work with them, not against them!

Happy National Black Cat Day!🖤

Today, 27th October, we’re celebrating our beautiful black cats!

Founded by Cats Protection in 2010, National Black Cat Day aims to challenge the superstitions and stereotypes that have seen these gorgeous felines overlooked. And let’s be honest… they deserve just as much love, luck and attention as every other cat!🐾💜

Do you have a black cat at home? Share a photo and tag – we’d love to celebrate your little shadow!

Firework Season is round the corner!

While some of us enjoy the sparkle, our feline friends may find the bangs and flashes frightening. Here are a few ways to help your cat feel safe this firework season:

• Create a cosy hiding spot
• Play TV or gentle music to muffle the noise
• Keep them indoors with windows and cat flaps secured
• Let them hide and comfort them on their terms
• Ask us about calming aids if your cat needs extra support

Remember, a hiding cat isn’t being difficult; they’re looking for somewhere they feel safe. Let them take things at their own pace! 💜

nurse visit to vaccinate a rescued mum cat at Portsmouth Cats Lost, Found & Rehomed

We received a first purr-son account from one of our clients. A dental story, POV of the patient!
Felix came to us with some concerns: pongy breath, strange fits of cough, and somewhat...."well-fed". So, we did everything in one go: under anaesthetic he had chest X-rays, a full dental exam and descale and polish, and bloods & urine taken to check his general health.

While he only needed a good teeth cleaning to clear his terrible breath, we detected early signs of kidney issues. Luckily, early detection means he can be switched to a better kidney-friendly diet, which will allow a longer, & better quality life.

X-rays did not detect any severe issue with his lungs, just some mild changes. We believe his cough is due to some work being done at his home, with too much dust, so we recommended washing his bedding and keeping the house as free of dust as possible!

Have you ever considered this- in one day your vet is a dentist, a radiographer and an internal medicine physician! To minimise distress to our patients (and cost to the clients) we often arrange to do multiple procedures in one go.

Cat or French bakery? You decide. 🥐🍞🧣
If you own a cat, you know they don't just sleep—they proof like sourdough. The internet has officially classified the three ultimate cat pastry positions. Which one is your kitty rocking today?
1. The Loaf 🍞
• The Look: All four paws and tail completely tucked underneath. A perfect rectangular block of bread.
• The Vibe: "I’m relaxing, but keep the treats close." They feel totally safe and cozy, but they're still keeping an eye on the room (and conserving maximum body heat).
2. The Croissant 🥐
• The Look: Curled tightly on their side into a crescent shape. Nose touches the tail.
• The Vibe: * Do Not Disturb Mode.* This tight curve protects their vital organs and blocks out drafts. If your cat is a croissant, they have officially entered deep, restorative REM sleep.
3. The Baguette 🥖
• The Look: The elongated loaf. Instead of sitting upright, they stretch flat, long, and narrow against the floor.
• The Vibe: Maximum liquid form. This is a total level-up from the standard loaf. It means their guard is completely down, their spine is fully relaxed, and they are living their best low-stakes life.
👇 Drop a comment and pictures below: Is your cat currently a 🍞, 🥐, or 🥖?

🐾 Did you know that up to 90% of senior cats live with arthritis? 🙀

Cats are absolute masters at hiding pain.

If your furry best friend is getting older, keep an eye out for these quiet signs of Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD):

• Hitting the "snooze" button on jumping up to their favorite high windowsill 🪟

• A coat that looks a bit unkempt or matted because stretching to groom hurts 🐈‍⬛

• Hesitating or looking stiff when they first wake up from a nap 😴

• Accidentally missing the litter box because the sides are too high to step over 🐾

The good news? While we can't reverse joint changes, we can absolutely keep them comfortable! From advanced new vet treatments to simple home upgrades like ramps, low-sided litter trays, and cozy heated beds, there is so much we can do.

If you’ve noticed any of these changes, it might be time for a quick chat and a senior check-up with your vet! 🩺❤️
