Happy Bonfire night to everyone, enjoy the fireworks and stay safe! Here’s some tips to keeping your dogs calm and relaxed over this period 🎆
Although many dogs are generally scared of loud noises such as fireworks, some dogs are affected more than others so keep an eye out for stress and do all you can to prevent further worry and prepare. Bonfire Night is frightening for dogs due to the loud bangs, flashing lights, and strong smells of fireworks, leading to stress, anxiety, and potential injury. Dogs experience these events more intensely due to their sensitive hearing and can show signs of fear like trembling, hiding, panting, and destructive behavior.
It is crucial to never take a dog to a firework display and to create a safe, comforting den inside at home and walk your dogs before it’s dark. This will tire them out more so they will hopefully sleep through the fireworks and also it’ll help their energy levels and stop them being so overworked at the noise and flashing.
You can also close all curtains so your dog cannot see the fireworks and also mask the noise by putting on the TV or radio.
Make sure all windows and doors are shut to prevent your dog from escaping and being spooked.
