Believe it or not, just 3 weeks ago we found out that our lovely, handsome 4-year-old boy had been diagnosed with a disease called Addison’s disease.
So many people I’ve spoken to have said, “What’s that? I’ve never heard of it.” — and honestly, neither had we until now.
Three weeks ago we genuinely thought we were close to losing him. Addison’s can be fatal if it isn’t caught in time, but thankfully we were the lucky ones and he was diagnosed just in time. He’s now on lifelong medication and has to have a monthly injection to keep him stable and safe. It’s also very rare in Border Collies — and in most breeds — which is why I want to raise some awareness for other dog owners.
Our boy had always been healthy, loved his walks, his food, his cuddles and all the attention. Then suddenly everything changed.
He stopped eating and drinking, didn’t want to go outside, stopped playing with his toys and didn’t even want cuddles — which was completely unlike him. It happened so quickly and it was heartbreaking to watch.
I’m sharing this because so many dog owners — and even people who work with dogs — have never heard of Addison’s disease. If our experience can help even one person spot the signs sooner, it’s worth it.
And now… this is our boy today — back to normal, full of life, and being his happy, cuddly self again.
The “before” photos are still painful for us to look at, but seeing how far he’s come just fills us with gratitude.💙💙
I also want to thank vets for pets for all the ongoing support and quick help we needed. 💙
