Preparations for the winter season are well under way and although it's been quiet on the racing front in recent months there is always plenty going on behind the scenes.
The prolonged hot weather has affected racing plans for the horses we have had in work as we have not wanted to risk them on the hard ground so have not had many runners. From only three national hunt runners so far this summer two of them have been placed with the other being an unlucky faller. We have had a small number of runners on the flat over the past few months with a couple being placed including a close second.
Many of the horses have been enjoying a nice holiday out at grass although again the weather has affected this. With the lack of rain there is not as much grass as we would normally have this time of year which has meant we have been feeding large amounts of haylage and hard feeds throughout to supplement this. We are not alone though as many yards have been in the same boat this year. Its very beneficial for the horses just to be out for a few months though to have some down time and just enjoy being horses after a busy season.
While horses have been out it has allowed us to concentrate on other jobs such as breaking youngsters and bringing other horses back into work. It's also the time to clean and disinfect stables, clean rugs and prepare everything ready for when horses return to training.
We have rehomed a few horses that have now finished their racing careers and have all gone on to perfect homes which is always great to see and is something that is very important to us. There have also been a few new arrivals which we have sourced recently that we look forward to working with and we expect to add some more yet.
All we need now is some rain so we can start having a few more runners again. For anyone interested in getting involved we have horses available for sole or shared ownership and also spaces available to join our racing club so please contact us for more information.
We are looking forward to getting back into the swing of things properly with all the horses and excited for the season ahead. 🏇🏇
