When this chap visits he brings a tube of Primula cheese! He is very worried about being touched and having a lick of his favourite treat seems to soothe him - we eat chocolate which obviously is the answer to all our problems but each to their own I suppose ...

We have been on a huge journey with this chap. We still aren't at the end yet but we have come so far together. There was no way we could get near him for any part of the groom at first and his face was a complete no go zone. 😬 look at him now. We always make sure the same groomer grooms him to ensure the bond and mutual boundaries stay in place.
Onwards and upwards!! 💪

This pretty young lady has a real fear of the salon dryers. She literally goes into total meltdown which is hard to see. We have to dry her with hand held hairdryers! This takes at least 3 times longer than using the blasters but a groomer has to do what a groomer has to do to limit stress and anxiety!

This is only part of the filthy, matted, felted hair that we removed from the girls. It was very heavy and due to the sheer amount of matting it took a long time to remove it as we had no idea what was matting and what was the ear.
When dogs' ears are in that sort of condition, the blood in the ears is restricted and occasionally the ear will die and have to be removed.
Once the heavy weight is removed the blood vessels in the ears start filling and creating discomfort from tingling and heat building up. Dogs will shake their heads almost constantly and rub them against anything they can. It is very common for the blood vessels burst and a hematoma forms usually requiring an operation to drain it.
To try and avoid this happening the dogs' ears need to be contained - hence the picture of two of the girls sporting their snazzy headgear!
Really happy to report that to date there aren't any problems which is brilliant news.

We met these three girls yesterday. It created such a mixture of emotions. Anger (at the ........ who let this happen), relief at being able to help them, pity that they had gone through their ordeal, but best of all our hearts contracted with affection for them. They were so affectionate and longed for cuddles. Naturally we had to oblige .....

Sadly we are again carrying out welfare grooms. These three gorgeous girls need our help. They are arriving in foster tomorrow and we will hopefully make them more comfortable on Tuesday provided they can cope with it. Keep an eye out for the transformations.
