Black, un-neutered, un-chipped cat brought into our Rothesay surgery possibly been in a road traffic accident. Found near The Annexe, Townshead. Unfortunately the poor cat did not survive. If you this is your cat or you know the owner please contact us on 01700 503017.

On 1st August, Duncan and Catriona from Bute & Cowal Vets, together with Louise from MSD Animal Health, will be taking part in the Dunoon 10K Coastal Road Race to raise money for Vetlife.

Vetlife provides confidential support to members of the veterinary community who may be struggling with stress, anxiety, bereavement, financial difficulties or other challenges. It is a charity very close to our hearts. Veterinary work can be hugely rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding, exhausting and, at times, isolating. Knowing that independent help is available can make an enormous difference.

We will be running the beautiful — and possibly rather warm! — coastal route around Dunoon while raising funds to help Vetlife continue providing its vital services.

Whether we cross the finish line looking athletic and composed, or red-faced and questioning our life choices, we are determined to get there!

Every donation, however small, will help support people working throughout the veterinary professions when they need it most. We would be very grateful for your encouragement and support.

Good Afternoon Dunoon and surrounding areas!
This wee guy ( we think a guy ) is currently with us and looking to go back home after escaping. Found in the Strone area over the weekend. Very popular with all team members, we shall be sad but happy to see him go!

Morty was not very impressed when his humans dropped him with us to have surgery the other week. We had previously discovered a mass in his abdomen whilst taking xrays for his arthritis. Worried what the mass might be, and that it may have accelerated his arthritis, we operated on him to remove it. After a short and fairly straightforward surgery, the mass was gone and Morty was very much enjoying his post-operative meds! We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him for his next arthritis injection.

Star has been missing now for 6 days - last seen near the golf clubhouse.

Did you know rabbits can become seriously unwell if they don’t drink enough water? 💧🐰
Good hydration is essential for healthy digestion, kidney function, temperature regulation, and overall wellbeing. Rabbits who aren’t drinking enough may also be at greater risk of gut stasis too - a potentially life-threatening condition.
To help encourage healthy drinking habits:
🥬 Feed fresh leafy greens
💧 Provide constant access to fresh, clean water
☀️ Check bottles regularly in hot weather
🐇 Monitor how much your rabbits are drinking, especially during warmer months
Remember - rabbits often hide signs of illness, so reduced drinking, reduced appetite, smaller droppings, or lethargy should never be ignored. 💚

We looked after this feral pigeon last week after Bute Animal Rescue & Rehoming asked us to check a wing injury. It had been grounded in a garden for a couple of days having been fed and watered by the householders before they realised it couldn't fly. On closer examination we discovered a shot wound penetrating through its chest towards its shoulder. We removed an air gun pellet under anaesthetic and have been cleaning the entry wound daily. The pigeon is now recuperating with a BARAR volunteer who is giving its wing physiotherapy before it can go for rehabilitation in an outside aviary. We hope it will be able to fly again and that we do not receive any more patients with shot injuries.
