Itʼs a common misconception that hot cars are the main danger causing pets to overheat in summer. In reality, over-exertion during walks is the leading cause of heatstroke in dogs, making up an astonishing 74% of cases.

This risk is greater for dogs that are:
⚫Brachycephalic (flat faced)
⚫Overweight
⚫Elderly
⚫Have underlying heart or respiratory conditions.

On a warm day, the temperature inside a parked car can rise dangerously fast 🌡🚗

'Not long' is too long. If you canʼt take them with you when you leave the car - leave them safely at home.

Heatstroke is a veterinary emergency.

Symptoms include:
🔴Heavy panting
🔴Excessive salivation
🔴Rapid heart rate
🔴Bright red gums and tongue
🔴Weakness, confusion or collapse

If you see a dog in distress in a hot car, first call 999, then seek veterinary advice urgently.
