Happy 1st Birthday to Sherlock.
Singing Cavy Stud thank you for this lovely boy, can't believe we have had him almost a year. I was looking for a new boar pig to show in pet classes as at this point I was only showing teddies. He popped up on my Facebook feed and I knew instantly he was the one. I knew I was looking for a smooth coated boar and I quite fancied a roan; he fit the description perfectly. As I already had a Miss Marple I decided to stick with a literary detective theme and named him Sherlock. He loves his grub and human company. He will be getting his favourite veggies today. 🫑🥕🍓

We had the best day on Saturday at Thirsk. Such a lovely show every time. Probably one of our most successful shows to date. Emily got best Child's pet with Honesty, I took best adult pet with Miss Marple. Much to Emily's delight she beat me to best over all pet. She also took best child's purebred with Delores. Thank you to the judges for thinking so highly of them, you really made our day. We didn't only come home with trophies and rosettes, we also brought home a new edition to the shed. She's going to join Emily's show team. She's named her Veronica. The lighting wasn't very good in the shed when we took these photos last night so I'll try to get some more of our new pig soon.

So true

Nobody takes a picture of the part that matters most.

The alarm set for midnight because the medication has to be given twelve hours apart. The syringe filled just right, the meds carefully measured. The gentle hold, supporting their little body, because they’re not as steady as they used to be.

There is a version of love that only shows up when everything easy has been stripped away. When the piggy who once zoomed and popcorned now needs help just to stay comfortable. When vet visits go from occasional to regular, to urgent. When the cost of keeping a promise is measured in sleepless nights, vet bills, and decisions no one else sees.

The people who stay through that chapter don’t do it for thanks. They do it because walking away from a being who trusts you is simply not an option.

That’s not just pet ownership. That’s character.

Yesterday we took only the two pigs with us to the Lincolnshire show. I took Sapphire and entered her into both the Lincoln show and the NHCC stock show. I am really pleased with how she placed in the NHCC SS, placing 2nd out of 12 in the Cali Challenge any age. Emily took her Saffron self Alice, and didn't take any pets this time. Unfortunately, although there were other children showing, there was only Emily with a purebred. Alice is still happy to pose with her rosette. Emily was please to come home with a 3rd place out of 9 in the open show.

We had a lovely day yesterday at Lincolnshire Cavy Club's first show of the year. What a great team everyone made; pulling together setting up the pens. We did try to arrive early to help with set up, but we were shocked to see so many people already there by the time we arrived. After setting up and penning our pigs it was time to enjoy a well deserved breakfast. We did a bit of stewarding for both the pets and the pure breds. A tasty dinner followed before returning to the judging tables to help once again with stewarding. We did however have time to socialise and have a catch up with existing friends and chat to some new people. It's always nice to see some new faces entering the fancy, especially when it involves new children. Emily enjoys the competitive side of the hobby and for her she is always disappointed when she is the only child at a show, which has happened on quite a few occasions, so it was fantastic to see a couple of new children at their first show yesterday. We hope everyone enjoyed their day out as much as we did. Looking forward to next time.
