REACTIVE DOG, PLEASE GIVE US SPACE!
That's what Bills lead sleeve says. It's not a lot to ask for a little bit of space with our dogs is it?
Reactive, now that's an interesting word. A dog can be Reactive for many different reasons. Reactive is the dogs reaction to a situation it could be over excitement, fear, nervousness, aggression or age.
The picture with the lead sleeve is Bill in busy spaces such as Vets or the seaside where he is more likely to see dogs. You see Bill is a rescue, he was a stray on the street and is fearful of dogs as he's been attacked while on the street during this time. He barks to keep dogs away and it can seem aggressive to people who don't know him but he's just scared! He's scared of the dog you let get too close to him, he's scared of the dog you have off lead and are shouting "it's OK it's friendly" as it's running at him.
If you have no dog you get the other Bill in these pictures, happy Bill who wants nothing more than all the snuggles and scratches you can give him
So if you see a dog with a lead sleeve or even a dog on lead please place your dog back on lead as you don't know if that dog is reactive or injured or maybe just doesn't want a dog to run up to it. Next time ask that owner if they are happy for their dog to meet yours and do so in a calm manner and they may get a new friend for walks forever.
Please give us space, reactive dog or not
