๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ’™ A big shout-out to Charlie the Flemish Giant rabbit, who came to see us last week for his castrate procedure!

Today, Charlie returned for his first post-operative check with our lovely nurse Naomi, who was delighted with how well he is recovering. ๐ŸŒŸ

Charlie certainly kept us on our toes during his visit! He showed us just how powerful those giant bunny hops are when it came time to assess him and check his weight. ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ’จ After a little gentle persuasion (and a few of his favourite bunny treats!), he decided stepping onto the scales wasn't so bad after all. ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿ˜‹

This beautiful big boy has completely stolen our hearts, and we're so pleased with his amazing progress.

Well done, Charlie! Keep up the fantastic recovery โ€“ we're all very proud of you! โค๏ธ๐Ÿฐ

Beautiful little Misu came in to see our lovely vet Ewa for her spay procedure this week ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿพ

Misu had a flank spay, which means the surgery was performed through a small incision on the side of her body rather than underneath on her tummy. This approach is commonly used in cats and has some great benefits โ€” the incision is often easier to monitor after surgery, there can be less tension on the wound when they move around, and for some cats it may reduce the risk of post-operative complications if theyโ€™re particularly active during recovery.

A traditional midline spay is performed through an incision underneath the abdomen and is also a very safe and commonly performed procedure. The best approach depends on the patient, and our vets will always choose the most suitable option for each pet ๐Ÿฉบ

Misu was an absolute superstar throughout her procedure and recovery, and we canโ€™t wait to see her again at her post-operative checks for plenty of fuss and cuddles ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿพ Little Miss Mabel visited us recently for her 2nd vaccination, weigh check and FREE dental check โ€” and she certainly made an impression! ๐Ÿ’–

At just 14 weeks old, Mabel was full of confidence and enthusiasmโ€ฆ especially on reception where she couldnโ€™t resist trying to โ€œhelpโ€ greet all of our clients! ๐Ÿถโœจ

Her second vaccination is an important step in protecting her against serious infectious diseases and helping her stay safe as she starts exploring the world. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’‰

We also gave Mabel a weigh check to make sure sheโ€™s growing at a healthy rate and getting the right nutrition for her age โ€” something especially important for fast-growing puppies! โš–๏ธ๐Ÿพ

And of course, Mabel had her FREE dental check too! ๐Ÿฆท Early dental checks help us spot any concerns before they become bigger problems and get puppies used to having their mouths examined from a young age.

Our FREE dental checks are still available to all registered clients, so if your pet is due one, feel free to contact the team to book in! ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ•๐Ÿˆ 01304 375571

Thank you for brightening our day, Mabel โ€” we canโ€™t wait to see you again soon! ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒžOtto's here to remind us all!๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒž

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ Summer heat can be extremely dangerous for pets โ€” and it only takes minutes for them to overheat. As temperatures rise, itโ€™s important to take extra precautions to protect our furry family members.

Here are some essential hot weather safety tips for pets:

๐Ÿ’ง Keep fresh, cool water available at all times
๐ŸŒณ Provide plenty of shade and cool resting areas
๐Ÿ  Keep pets indoors during peak heat hours whenever possible
๐Ÿšถ Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when sidewalks are cooler
๐Ÿ”ฅ Test pavement with your hand โ€” if itโ€™s too hot for you, itโ€™s too hot for their paws
๐Ÿš— NEVER leave pets in a parked car, even with windows cracked
โœ‚๏ธ Regular grooming can help, but never completely shave double-coated breeds
๐Ÿฆ Offer pet-safe frozen treats to help them cool down

Watch closely for signs of heatstroke:
โš ๏ธ Heavy panting
โš ๏ธ Excessive drooling
โš ๏ธ Weakness or confusion
โš ๏ธ Vomiting or diarrhea
โš ๏ธ Bright red gums
โš ๏ธ Collapse

If your pet shows signs of overheating, move them to a cool area immediately, offer water, and contact a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Our pets rely on us to keep them safe. A little extra care during hot weather can save lives. โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™ Veterinary Nurses: the superheroes behind the scenes! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Did you know veterinary nurses are highly skilled medical professionals who do SO much more than cuddling puppies and handing out treats? ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Veterinary nurses are trained to:
โœจ Monitor anaesthesia during surgery
โœจ Take blood samples and run laboratory tests
โœจ Place IV catheters and administer medications
โœจ Take X-rays and assist with diagnostic imaging
โœจ Care for hospitalised patients
โœจ Perform dental procedures and dental X-rays
โœจ Assist in emergency and critical care situations
โœจ Provide wound care and bandage changes
โœจ Support nervous pets and reassure worried owners
โœจ Educate clients on nutrition, medications, and preventative care
โœจ Keep patients safe, comfortable, and loved every single day โค๏ธ

They are compassionate, knowledgeable, calm under pressure, and absolutely essential to every veterinary team. ๐Ÿพ

As itโ€™s Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month, we want to say a HUGE thank you to all the incredible veterinary nurses out there for your dedication, kindness, and hard work. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’

Be sure to show your favourite veterinary nurse some love this month! ๐Ÿฉต

๐Ÿพ Brave little Minnie ๐Ÿพ

Last week, sweet Minnie the tiny Chihuahua came in to have a lump removed โ€” and she was such a brave girl throughout her procedure ๐Ÿ’–

Minnie was first pre-medicated and gently sedated before receiving her general anaesthetic. Her surgical site was then carefully prepared by being shaved, scrubbed, and sterilised โœจ

Once in theatre, the vet was able to safely remove the mass before closing the surgical site. Minnie then recovered comfortably back in her kennel with plenty of care and cuddles ๐Ÿถ

Today, Minnie came back for her second post-op check and suture removal, and weโ€™re so pleased to say she has done amazingly well! ๐ŸŒŸ

Pictured here with our amazing RVN Katie, who did a fantastic job monitoring Minnieโ€™s anaesthetic during her procedure and removing her final sutures today ๐Ÿ’•

Well done, Minnie โ€” youโ€™ve been a superstar every step of the way ๐Ÿ’•

This week at Lakeview we had the pleasure of meeting the very handsome Big Dave! ๐Ÿพ

Dave is a magnificent Maine C**n cat who weighed in at an incredible 9kg! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Known as one of the largest domesticated cat breeds in the world, Maine C**ns originated in North America and were traditionally prized for their hunting skills, thick coats, and hardy nature. Their impressive size and wild appearance have earned them the nickname โ€œgentle giantsโ€ โ€” although Dave definitely had us convinced he had a mischievous wild side too! ๐Ÿฏ

Dave came to see us for some de-matting treatment with our wonderful VCA Kirsty, whilst our amazing RVN Katie kept him entertained and distracted throughout his visit. Safe to say this playful guy kept us all on our toes from start to finish! ๐Ÿ˜‚

And just look at the size of him next to Kirsty โ€” although to be fair, she is only 4ft 11! ๐Ÿ˜†

With his giant paws, fluffy coat, and big cat energy, Dave certainly made an impression on the whole team here at Lakeview! โค๏ธ

Meet Allie โ€” one of the friendly faces behind the front desk here at Lakeview! ๐Ÿพ

As our veterinary receptionist, Allie is always on hand supporting both our admin and nursing teams with a smile. Sheโ€™s also an aspiring Veterinary Care Assistant and has recently started her VCA journey at our sister practice, Briar House, where she can be found a couple of days each week gaining hands-on experience. ๐Ÿ’™

Allie has a huge passion for small furry pets โ€” especially cats and rabbits! At home she looks after her very own rabbit and cat kingdom! They are; Merlin๐Ÿฑ, Skittles๐Ÿ˜ธ, Nell๐Ÿ˜ป, Betsy ๐Ÿ˜บ, Darcy ๐Ÿฐ, Mac ๐Ÿ‡, Flo ๐Ÿฐ and last but not least Tommy! ๐Ÿข

When sheโ€™s not helping our clients and patients at Lakeview or learning at Briar House, Allie spends her free time volunteering with TAG Rescue. Whether at work, at home, or volunteering, sheโ€™s always happiest wherever animals can be found! โœจ

Thank you for all you do Allie! Lakeview and our pets appreciate it!

๐Ÿพ Meet Naomi ๐Ÿพ

Naomi graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Animal Science in September 2019 and joined DNA shortly before that in July 2019, starting her veterinary journey as a Receptionist/VCA. Not one to stay away from learning for long, she began training as a Student Veterinary Nurse in September 2020 and officially qualified as an RVN in April 2023 โ€” overcoming the challenges of COVID and plenty of obstacles along the way! ๐Ÿ’ชโœจ

Youโ€™ll mainly find Naomi at our busy Briar House branch, but she also spends Mondays with the Lakeview team and occasionally helps out at our Canterbury branch too. Wherever sheโ€™s based, she always gives 100% and brings positivity, care, and dedication to every patient and client she meets. ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Naomi loves the variety that veterinary nursing brings โ€” no two days are ever the same! She is passionate about animal welfare, takes pride in providing meticulous nursing care, and especially enjoys nurse clinics, surgical nursing, and building relationships with pets and their owners. She is also trained in K-Laser therapy and is always eager to continue learning and growing as an RVN. ๐ŸŒŸ

At home, Naomi has a cheeky one-year-old cat called Lennox, along with two adorable guinea pigs, Ferrero and Rexx. She has a huge love for all animals โ€” from cats and dogs to small pets and wildlife โ€” and will always do her best to help animals in need. โค๏ธ

Outside of work, Naomi enjoys spending quality time with her pets, friends, and family, whether thatโ€™s days out, meals together, cosy nights in, watching movies (sheโ€™ll happily get hooked on any genre!), or listening to music wherever she goes. ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿฟ
