Yesterday, Barrow visited us with his best mate Baxter for his monthly osteoarthritis injection.

As always, Barrow was very brave and full of tail wags, especially when the treats came out afterwards! 🐾

It’s great to see him staying comfortable and enjoying life, with Baxter by his side.

We look forward to seeing them both again next month.

Another fantastic Puppy Party today! We also welcomed a new member; Bandit the spaniel!

This week we had a discussion about:
🐾 Diets and nutrition
AND
🐾 Preventative healthcare including vaccinations and flea and worming treatments

We also had some everyday objects out for desensitisation and the puppies enjoyed a space for safe socialisation and confidence building.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today!

🌟Arthritis awareness month🌟

During May we recognise National Arthritis awareness month!

It’s important to recognise when your pet is in pain, because it’s not just a medical concern that affects their physical health it also affects their behaviour, making them feel frustrated, anxious and even aggressive. It can also prevent them from doing daily activities.

Arthritis is a degenerative joint disease, that may not be seen on x-ray however this does not mean they are not in discomfort or pain.

Signs of arthritis:
⛹️‍♀️Reluctance to play
🚶Slower on walks and laziness
🪜Difficult with steps / stairs
🔉Fear of loud noises
🐌Slow to rise or lay down / changes in they way the stand and sit because of stiffness
🥺New fears and anxieties
😡Change in temperament for example irritability
👅Excessively licking or chewing around joints

So what can you do to prevent osteoarthritis from progressing or from causing pain and discomfort:

🧑‍⚕️Book in to see your vet! You’ll be offered options to make them more comfortable for example medication. And don’t be afraid of pain relief!

👩‍⚕️Book in to see your veterinary nurse for advice on how you can support them if they are suffering with arthritis.
🏋️Weight management
⚽️Avoid ball throwing
💊Supplements
🩺Surgery
👨‍⚕️Physiotherapy / Hydrotherapy
🔨Home modifications

‼️Don’t forget this month we are offering…

🌟£25 osteoarthritis consultations with a vet
🌟 Free nurse consultations to discuss how you can best support your pet suffering with osteoarthritis

Today’s introductory Puppy Party class was full of fun, play and socialisation. 🐶🐾❤️

Meet Ember, Coco and Woody, our new recruits!

The puppies enjoyed a safe and supervised environment where they could explore socialisation with other pups, engage in gentle play, and begin learning important life skills. We also introduced a desensitisation exercise in a consult room for each individual puppy to help build confidence around new sights, sounds and handling so they are used to the physical examination process.

We can’t wait to see everyone again next week! 🐾

This month is Veterinary Nurse Awareness month (VNAM).

VNAM celebrates and recognises the vital role of our registered veterinary nurses (RVNs) during May.

It’s important we highlight their clinical skills, compassion and care, because the practice would not be able to operate without them.

Some of the roles of our fantastic RVNs include:
- Anaesthesia
- Analgesia advocates
- Phlebotomy
- Weight clinics
- Puppy parties
- Minor procedures
- Infection control
- Triage
- Radiography
- Laboratory testing
- Care / love and compassion for hospitalised patients
- Patient advocates
- Physiotherapist
- Nutritionist
- End of life carer
- Teacher
- Advice giver
- Puppy and kitten cuddles
- Groomer

And much more…

So this is the month to recognise the hard work of our RVNs.

This week at puppy parties we had a new member join us, meet Boris, the 9 week old Ridgeback. Boris loved playing with Obi the Labrador and our two cockapoos Otis and Olive.

During this weeks session we covered the following topics:

Neutering (if you require any neutering advice do not hesitate to contact our reception to speak to one of our team).

AND

Puppy desensitisation sounds.

We will be starting a new puppy party group on Wednesday 13th May.

If you have recently got a puppy who has had their first vaccinations and is up to date with parasite treatment and you are interested in joining our puppy parties for socialisation, please contact our reception on 01304 379533 for more information.

This handsome boy is Arthur, he was with us today for his castration. Such a lovely boy who’s perfected those puppy dog eyes🥺

He preferred a sunny spot and a lap to sleep on rather than his kennel 💗
