The Animal Welfare Act 2006 is the primary legislation protecting animals in England and Wales. It places a legal duty of care on owners to provide for their pets basic welfare needs, and it strictly prohibits causing any unnecessary physical or mental suffering. When your dogs are in my care I do everything in my power to meet these 5 needs consistently. Knowing that your dogs are happy, healthy and safe in my care is my upmost priority 🤍
1. The need for a suitable diet
I offer treats where appropriate and pay close attention to any allergies. I also always have fresh water down that is changed between every dog
2. The need to be housed with, or apart from other animals
I am a 1-1 grooming salon which helps keep dogs comfortable during the grooming process as it is never crowded or busy and I don’t have to use crates to keep dogs separate. I offer multiple dog appointments for dogs from the same household
3. The need for a suitable environment
The salon is cleaned daily and a deep clean is carried out weekly to keep everything fresh. I have air con for hotter days to keep the salon at a safe temperature. I also have a sofa which offers the dogs some home comforts whilst in the salon
4. The need to be protected from pain, injury, suffering and disease
Equipment is cleaned between dogs to ensure nothing can be passed from dog to dog. I use strong, safe restrains (a neck and belly strap) on the table so the dogs are comfortable but also secure. I complete a health check on every dog when they first come in and keep on top of my first aid training
5. The need to exhibit normal behaviours
Each groom is tailored to the individual dog. Some dogs need 10 minutes of play time or cuddles before we get started, others clearly want it over and done with! I make sure all their needs are met and watch constantly during grooms for any changes in body language that may indicate they need a break. I will never push a dog for the sake of a perfect haircut and humanity over vanity is something I live by when grooming
