Cockburn Vets has been caring for animals in Leicestershire since the 1930's. And, although we employ current best practice and our surgery is kitted out with the latest equipment, we still retain our traditional values. We care about animals, not sales of pet medicines, so you can trust us to offer ethical advice and never to recommend treatments or medication your pet doesn’t really need. Our te

am will always deal with emergencies that occur during our normal working hours as a priority. If you call our surgery outside of normal hours, you will be automatically transferred to our 24-hour emergency service provided by MiNightVet.

***As this page is not monitored 24/7, please contact the surgery on 01530 836654 for enquiries, advise and emergencies.***

We understand that the options given can be overwhelming when your pet comes in for a procedure. Pre-anaesthetic blood testing is just one way we can increase the safety of our anaesthetic procedures. These could check for:
- Signs of organ dysfunction - which could make the anaesthetic a higher risk
- Screening for bleeding disorders - making sure that any surgery is not going to have a high bleeding risk
- Electrolyte levels - does the body seem balanced and well?

There are a whole host of in house and external blood tests we can run, and your vet may reccomend different blood tests depending on your pets age, existing conditions, or risk factors. Please ask any questions if you are not sure about which test is right for your pet.

These 6 Bengal kitties came in to see us for their neutering procedures. They loved playing with the team and causing havoc in their kennel before and after their operations! The kitties were kept separate when recovering from their anaesthetics, but couldn’t wait to come back together for some snuggles 🐱🐱

Equipment Highlight 🩻

Our ultrasound scanner is an integral piece of kit for the team. It allows us to assess soft tissues in the abdomen and chest. It is a safe and relatively low stress procedure for pets and is performed in a dark room. We can even measure structures inside to see if everything is the normal size. We also have Mark from Wyre Referrals who comes to visit us. He is an Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Cardiology, and can perform echocardiograms (heart scans) and in depth abdominal scans too!
