Ingrid Grayling Dog Trainer With over 35 years’ experience, I offer bespoke 1-2-1 dog training using my unique and simple training techniques.

Based at French’s Teign Valley Nursery, Christow EX6 7LB Dogs have always been a major part of my life and I have been training and working with them for over 35 years. My passion started not just at home when I was young but also when I worked during the school holidays at my local kennels near to where I lived, I spent many a happy weekend helping out and working there. I believe my knowledge is

as extensive as my experience with dogs. In my 20’s I trained and worked in London as a nurse and then moved to Cambridge to nurse at Addenbrookes Hospital before moving up to the north of England to start a family. I went on to set up a large boarding kennel establishment and training centre in the Ribble Valley in Lancashire. Through that experience I then decided to set up a small intimate Home from Home active holiday and boarding kennel business in Cumbria where I lived for around 25 years. In late 2019 I relocated my business to South Devon to be nearer my family, and where I currently work from. At the same time I also set up the training school and so was able to continue my passion of not just looking after other peoples’ dogs but training and behavioural work as well.

‘Training the Ingrid Grayling Way’ has been developed over the many years I have spent with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. I have endless enthusiasm, passion and a huge love of dogs, which I hope shines through when you meet me.

So many owners reach out to me feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, embarrassed, or simply exhausted by things that have slowly become difficult with their dog.

So hearing that walks feel calmer again, recall is improving, owners feel more confident, and dogs are easier to live with and enjoy - that’s the bit that truly matters most to me.

Life has been a bit of a whirlwind since launched his new book Training John and Murray.

After his visit to me last year to work with John and Murray, he’s shared such a generous and detailed account of the experience - in both this wonderful book and in his recent interview with Times and The Sunday Times and I honestly feel so proud to have been included.

Since the launch, my phone hasn’t stopped ringing with dog owners from all over the UK – and even the much further afield! – wanting to book in for training, which has been wonderful (and very busy!).

I’m really looking forward to catching up with Martin, Philippa and of course the boys this summer at Buckham Fair in Dorset on 2nd August where they raise funds for the Dorset Country Hospital and Emergency and Critical Care Appeal. It’s always such a brilliant event.

Martin writes so beautifully about his experience working with me and the boys, and it’s such a heartwarming (and very funny!) read. I feel incredibly honoured to be part of it.

She travelled down from Cumbria to spend three days learning the foundations of my approach to dog training - both the practical side and the wider understanding that sits behind it.

Bank holiday weekend is a good excuse to get out, stretch your legs, and enjoy some proper time outdoors with the dog.

Longer walks, busier paths, more distractions… it can all be brilliant fun or a bit much depending on what stage you and your dog are at.

Following on from my last post, this is Angela Atkinson.

Angela has just completed the three-day Train the Trainer course with me here in Devon after previously coming to me for help with training her own dog, which is really where her interest in becoming a trainer began.

That experience led her to want to take things further, and now she’s preparing to set up her own dog training business in Cumbria this summer, working closely under my guidance as she gets started.

Angela has put in the work, taken everything on board quickly, and has a really grounded, calm approach with dogs - exactly what you want to see at this stage. I’m really looking forward to seeing her develop things from here.

When I moved down to Devon a few years ago, I left behind not just a home, but a name that had become very well known in Cumbria - Ingrid Grayling, the bespoke dog trainer, and a way of working that people trusted. The “Grayling way”, as many came to call it.

It’s also the title of my forthcoming book later this year, and something I’ve always hoped I could continue to pass on.

So it feels like a very significant moment to be able to introduce Angela Atkinson. Angela lives near the Lake District and came down to Devon in April for a 3-day Train the Trainer course with me.

We covered everything, not just practical training, but pack leadership, behavioural work, nutrition, working dogs, breeding, puppies, older dogs, plus the realities of running a training business and PR. The full picture.

Angela is a natural dog person; she is quick to learn, thoughtful, and very easy to work with, and we got on brilliantly throughout. She left for Cumbria full of energy, ideas, and determination, and is now preparing to set up her own dog training business this May under my guidance.

A really special next step.

I do really love getting to know my clients - each owner and their dog is so different, no two are ever the same! It feels like such a privilege to be able to get to know so many of them so well, and to be a part of their journey towards a stronger relationship and a better understanding of one another.

Here’s Cosmo, straight after his first session with me.

We covered a lot, and both he and his owner worked incredibly hard - it was the kind of session where everything starts to click into place. Cosmo absolutely threw himself into it, and by the end he was more than ready to get home and start putting it all into practice.

I’m really looking forward to continuing with Cosmo as he works his way through the stages of my basic obedience training course.
