🐴 Alice Peternell | Grand Prix Dressage Rider & Trainer

Alice has considerable experience as a dressage trainer having produced riders and horses from Novice to Grand Prix (Including the more ‘grass-root’ amateur level which they enjoy doing too). Alice's training background provides a huge pool of techniques from which to draw upon when discussing specific horse or rider technical problems. Alice and her team get real satisfaction and pleasure from pr

oducing combinations at all levels and offer training of riders and horses at their premises. They can also look after your horse while you are away on a short or long term basis so that training is not interrupted. Horses can be stabled at the livery yard for training livery and concentrated courses. We also offer private tuition at AP Equestrian for visiting clients (However they do not provide dressage schoolmasters and tuition can only be given on clients’ own horses). All levels are welcome - if it's your flatwork you want to polish up, we can help.

Happy days with 4 out of 5 red rosettes yesterday! 🐴❤️

Prince won his Novice on 76% and also won his first Elementary. We just need to keep working on building his strength, as he gains such high marks when his balance is there… Love him!

Bella then won the other Elementary class. We had a couple of silly but expensive mistakes, but I was really pleased to get some better marks in the canter work as it’s starting to feel much more relaxed now. 👏🏼

Sienna felt good in the Medium and I was pleased with her, although sadly she was the odd one out and didn’t quite achieve the marks we’ve had in recent tests.

Puff is back! After two years out of the competition arena due to injury, he went out for the first time yesterday. To say he was excited would be an understatement… He leapt onto the lorry in the morning, nearly knocking everyone out of the way with enthusiasm, then tanked me round the warm-up for the first 20 minutes! Luckily he settled enough to go on and win the PSG. A few mistakes where concentration wasn’t there, but it was so much fun to have the little guy back out again. 🤍

Show Report - Winter Championships 🐴

The Winter Champs didn’t quite go to plan, but still plenty to take away from the experience!

Newt finished 10th in the Advanced Medium Music, which I should be pleased with. I was undecided whether to do both the music and the Medium as they were on the same day, but after a good warm-up I decided to give it a go. He felt great to start with until we had a spooky moment as I asked for a change, which made him shut down on me and proved quite costly.

In the Medium, I just didn’t quite feel I had him with me, particularly towards the end of the test, which was reflected in the score of 68%. Not a bad mark, but not what I’d been hoping for.

Lots learnt and a few things to work on at home now, but he’s felt in good form leading up to this, so plenty to build on going forward!

A good day at the office at Burrows Court this week 🐴

I took three horses and all did well.

Bella won the Elementary on 71%, and I can really feel a difference in her balance now.

Helen Lomas’s Fourseasons Sienna (Sienna) gained +69% in the Medium and felt good - much better off my leg this year, so the winter homework has definitely paid off!

Newt had to contend with some horrible stormy weather, but still felt lovely, winning the Medium on +76% and scoring +74% in the Advanced Medium.

Fingers crossed now for the Winter Championships with him this Sunday, as he feels on good form. 🤞🏼

Introducing Prince 🖤

Lucky to have a new kid on the block here at AP Equestrian!

Aimee Backwell’s Prince is a gorgeous rising 6 year old gelding. He’s already showing plenty of promise, and I’m really looking forward to see what the season ahead holds for him. 🐴🤞🏼

Also keeping cosy in my new Fetlox coat which is practical, warm and perfect for rainy days. 🤍

Just back from a successful Regional Championships at Onley with Newt. 🐴

On Wednesday, we competed in the Advanced Medium Gold Freestyle and scored 70%. He’s still a bit green at this level and had a couple of expensive mistakes, but plenty to be pleased with.

Thursday was a long wait for our class, so for the third day running I decided to ride him in the morning as well. He came out in the afternoon feeling fresh as a daisy and really rideable. We were just beaten by half a percent to finish 2nd in the Medium Gold… Securing the golden ticket to the Championships, so I’m super pleased with my boy. ⭐️

A lovely venue, and I was very glad everything was indoors as the weather was awful! Thank you, as always, to Lee for making him look so beautiful. 🤍🐴
