Let’s talk about it…

Double-coated dogs can be more prone to skin and coat issues because that thick undercoat can trap moisture, dead skin, dirt and debris close to the skin➡️

Regular brushing and professional grooming can help remove excess undercoat, keep the coat clean and dry, and give you the chance to spot changes in the skin early👏🏼

however… excessive shedding, itching, redness, flakes, scabs, odour or greasy skin shouldn’t just be brushed off as “normal” for the breed

Grooming can support healthy skin, but it can’t diagnose or treat a skin condition, so, if your dog’s skin is persistently irritated or changing, your vet is the best person to speak to✔️

The goal isn’t to get rid of their undercoat, it’s to keep their natural coat healthy, clean and functioning as it should🧡

The comb never lies

Before anyone asks - yes, this is a Cockapoo puppy coat, which is naturally straighter and silkier than an adult coat.

The adult coat change can make maintenance much more challenging, but the goal stays the same: your comb should glide from skin to tip without catching🤞🏼

Spaniel ears are BEAUTIFUL👏🏼

They’re also one of the most high-maintenance parts of any dog to keep on top of…

The length, the feathering, the way they drag through everything.. It means they knot fast and trap moisture easily.

Most owners don’t notice until it’s already built up, and by then it’s so much harder (and uncomfortable for the dog) to sort out🥲

If you’ve got a spaniel and you’re not sure how often they should be coming in.. just ask!

I am always happy to recommend a length best suited for your lifestyle, a grooming frequency or anything you can do at home to keep them fresh🐾

The last thing I ever want to do is cancel or rearrange your appointment, but your dog’s safety will always come before sticking to the diary⭐️

Even with cool baths, the dryer on its coolest setting, fans running and plenty of breaks, there comes a point where the salon simply becomes too warm and humid to safely groom dogs.

When that happens, I’ll always make the decision to reschedule as soon as possible. I know it’s inconvenient, and I’m so grateful for your patience and understanding, but I’d much rather move an appointment than risk a dog becoming uncomfortable or overheating.

Thank you for trusting me to put your pups first - every single decision I make is with their welfare at the heart of it. 🐾🧡
