Today is Black Cat Appreciation Day, when we honour these beautiful cats who have been the subject of myth and superstition for centuries. 🐈‍⬛

Bringers of bad luck? Anyone who’s lived with a void cat knows the only thing they bring is love and affection (and, yes, occasional moments of chaos).
Did you know that black cats often get overlooked in rescues? If you’re thinking of adopting a cat, a shadowy sidekick might be your perfect match.

Meet Eddie the Border Terrier!
His owner booked a FREE Summer Smiles dental check - and it may have saved his life. 💚
The check confirmed dental disease and a lump on his gum and he was booked in for a biopsy and dental.

On the recommendation of his vet, his owner agreed to pre-op bloods to check that it was safe to proceed. The blood results led to a scan, which then led to life-saving surgery for a serious condition!

Eddie made a full recovery – and you can read his full story here: vetcollection.co.uk/health/pet-dental-health-hub/

✋ Before walking your dog on a hot day, press the back of your hand to the pavement for 5 seconds.

🔥 If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws!

🐾 Keep walks safe and paws protected by choosing cooler times of day such as early morning, and seek out paw-friendly surfaces for your pooch.

⚠Following on from our hot weather advice post for dogs it's important to consider the effects of high temperatures on our cats, rabbits, and other pets too.

The next few days are forecast to be hot. Remember, your pet can't tell you if they are feeling unwell and we, as owners, control their environment.

☀️Here are some tips to help keep your pets cool during a heatwave.

💙Do you have any photos of your pet staying cool as a cumber this summer? Share them below 👇

⚠Hot weather advice for dogs ⚠

We have some hot weather forecast this week.
It's important to remember that, unlike us, pets have no understanding that hot weather can be harmful. We control their environment, their access to water and their exercise, and they can’t speak up if they start feeling unwell.

☀️Heat stroke can rapidly progress and, even with veterinary treatment, is often fatal.

Here are some top tips on how to help your dog stay cool during a heatwave.

Going to the beach this summer?

We all love a day at the seaside with our four-legged friends, but let’s make
sure we’re keeping our beaches safe, clean and fun for everyone. 🏖🐶

✅ Pick up after your dog - and dispose of poo bags properly
✅ Be observant of restrictions - not all beaches allow dogs all year round
✅ Keep your dog under control - use a lead in busy areas or near wildlife
✅ Don’t let your dog approach others without checking first - not every dog
or person wants to say hello
✅ Watch out for heatstroke - take breaks for shade and fresh water, and stay
out of the intense midday sun
✅ Never let your dog drink seawater - small amounts can cause vomiting or
diarrhoea and large amounts can have dangerous consequences.

💙Most importantly - have fun and enjoy the sand and surf!
We’d love to see your favourite dog beach snaps below ⛱📷⬇
