Arvonia Vets was established in 1980 as a small animal first opinion veterinary surgery by Guy Mewha-Williams and Richard Hillam. Based over 2 sites in The Reddings and Churchdown, we are proud of our relaxed, friendly atmosphere and high quality of clinical care. We try to spend as much time with our clients as they feel they need and ensure the highest quality of care for our patients throughout the day. Posh Paws Grooming is conveniently situated at the rear of the practice and run by Lynda.

🐶 Meet Kenco 🐶

Kenco has been busy these past six months… busy growing, learning, stealing hearts and absolutely perfecting the art of being adorable.

It has been a pleasure to witness his development from his first visit to the confident young dog he is today.

🩵 Meet Olivia 🩵

" Hello I’m Olivia! I’ve been part of arvonia vets now for nearly three years. I’m in my final year of training to become a registered veterinary nurse , I enjoy all aspects of the job and find working with animals very rewarding. My main role is to monitor patient anaesthesia and inpatient care, you’ll usually catch me wherever there’s a golden retriever 🫶- they have a special place in my heart. In my spare time I enjoy walks with my cocker spaniel Alfie 🐾 "

🩵 Thank you, Olivia, for the care you give, the smiles you bring and the difference you make to every pet who walks through our doors. 🩵

🐾💉May is Vet Nurse Awareness Month 💉🐾

This month we’re celebrating the incredible vet nurses who keep our pets healthy, comfort them when they’re scared, and support owners through every stage of their pet’s life.

🩵 Meet Abbie 🩵

" Hello I’m Abbie! I’ve been part of Arvonia for almost a year now and have completed a large part of my training here as a student.

I find so much reward in being able to help animals. Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a passion for caring for animals and making sure they’re happy and healthy.

I really enjoy dentals and getting stuck in with these. I’m very excited to continue learning about preventative measures and helping/advising owners.

Outside of work, I love riding my motorbike. The best part though is coming home to my two cats for lots of cuddles🐈‍⬛🐈 "

🩵 We’re so grateful for everything Abbie does — our team (and our patients) are very lucky to have her. 🩵

🐾💉May is Vet Nurse Awareness Month 💉🐾

Vet nurses are the quiet heroes of the clinic — monitoring anaesthetics, providing round‑the‑clock care, offering advice, giving cuddles, and bringing compassion to every patient they meet.

🩵 Meet Zoe 🩵

" Hello, I’m Zoe! I’ve been part of the Arvonia team for the past 3 years. I started here as an Assistant and have recently qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

I absolutely love being a nurse and caring for people’s pets. I always strive to treat every patient as if they were my own and ensure they receive the highest standard of care possible.

My main interests are patient care and CT imaging, and I’m excited to continue developing my skills in these areas as part of the Arvonia team.

In my spare time I enjoy walking the dogs and sitting in the garden with my chickens! "

🩵 Thank you Zoe for your dedication, kindness and skill. We couldnt do what we do without you. 🩵

🦴🐾 What Can Cause Arthritis in Cats? 🐾🦴

Cats are masters at hiding discomfort, which means arthritis often goes unnoticed until it’s quite advanced. Understanding what causes arthritis can help owners spot problems earlier and keep their cats comfortable for longer.

Common Causes of Arthritis in Cats-

🦴Age‑related wear and tear — cartilage naturally breaks down as cats get older

🦴Previous injuries — falls, fractures or sprains can lead to early joint changes

🦴Hip dysplasia — less common than in dogs, but still a risk in some breeds

🦴Obesity — extra weight puts extra strain on joints

🦴Genetics and breed — breeds like Maine C***s and Persians can be more prone

🦴Joint inflammation or infection — rare, but can damage cartilage over time
