Castle Veterinary Group is a two centre 13 vet practice catering for all animals both large to the very small. Our purpose built surgery in Castlewellan was opened in 1997, and newest surgery in Downpatrick in 2015. Both are equipped with a state of the art operating theatre, diagnostic imaging suite medical laboratory with in house blood testing facilities, endoscopy, ECG machine. We are proud that both our surgeries have been accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) as small animal general practice at Tier 2 level. This is the highest standard for pet veterinary practice and involves a detailed inspection of a practice which is then classified accordingly. Our farm and equine practice is extensive and covers a large part of South Down. We pride ourselves on the quality care we provide and constantly update our services.

Fly strike is a serious risk, but it’s preventable. 🐰

👉 Check your rabbit’s back end each day, keep their bedding clean, and ask your vet about protection.

With Pet Health Club, annual fly strike prevention is included for rabbit members.

It is that time of year again.. Back to school! 📚
As the new school year begins, we want to remind everyone that Castle Vet Group is more than just a veterinary practice — we’re a safe space for anyone who needs support, a moment to gather themselves, or just a friendly face.

We understand, for new students, finding your feet and establishing a new routine can seem very overwhelming in the beginning.
We would like to let all pupils & parents/carers of pupils know that our doors are always open as a safe space, at both our Downpatrick and Castlewellan practices.

If anyone needs to make a call home, arrange bus times/lifts, or if you simply need somewhere warm to wait, then we are here to help.

Feel free to call in and have chat with a member of our team and we will help in any way we can. Our goal is to make sure everyone feels safe and makes it home ok!

Blue-green algae can be toxic to dogs. ☢️

It may appear as scum or green paint on the surface of ponds or lakes, but even a small amount can cause dogs to become seriously ill. Keep them out of water that looks suspicious, and always check for warning signs when out on walks.
