🐾 Shadow 🐾

Shadow is a 13 year old domestic short hair who came into see us because his owner had noticed a wound on his ear. The wound was a few days old and because of its location made closing it very challenging for vet Laura but it all came together, and we are pleased to say Shadow has made a full recovery, and his wound has healed beautifully. Shadow is back to all his usual tricks in his local neighbourhood, keeping everyone on their toes.

🐾 Cats need summer care too! 🐾

While cats may seem independent, warm weather can increase the risk of dehydration - especially for older cats, kittens, and those with underlying health conditions.

To help keep your cat cool and comfortable this summer:
💧Provide fresh water throughout the day
💧Try multiple water bowls around the house
💧Keep cool, shaded areas available
💧Wet food can help increase water intake
💧Encourage pets to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day
💧Some cats only shown subtle signs when they're unwell. Keep an eye out for signs such as lethargy, panting, drooling or loss of appetite.

🐾 Meet Meeko 🐾

Meeko came into see Vet Kathryne and Nurse Becca for her first health check and vaccines then a kitten chat. She was so confident and brave and didn't even notice her vaccinations, we couldn't not share a picture of how inquisitive she was when she came out her basket!
We cant wait to see her back in a few weeks for next next vaccination, we are sure she will get lots of cuddles then too!

💦Keeping your dog hydrated is essential during warm weather 💧

Dogs can quickly become dehydrated in the heat, which may increase the risk of heatstroke - a potentially life-threatening condition.

To help keep your dog safe this summer:
💧Provide fresh, clean water throughout the day
💧Top up water bowls regularly
💧Bring water with you on walks and journeys
💧Encourage drinking after exercise or time in the sun
💧It’s also important to avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day and make sure your dog always has access to cool, shaded areas.

If your dog shows signs of heatstroke - including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting or collapse - contact us immediately.

Did you know we are a Gold standard cat friendly clinic? 🐾

Vet Laura recently attended the ISFM Congress, this 3 day event helps to keep us up to date with all things feline and cat friendly and covered gastrointestinal disease, respiratory disease, and cardiology. Laura was then able to share her knowledge with the team when she came back, giving us all helpful tip and tricks to make your cats time with us in the practice as calm and stress free as possible.
As part of being cat friendly we have to reapply every 3 years to make sure we maintain the high standards that our cats deserve. We have been a cat friendly clinic for 11 years and are very proud of how much we adapt and change to suit our patients.

🐾 Meet Ozzy! 🐾

Ozzy is a 8 month old Cocker Spaniel who has been coming into see Vet Nurse Becca for his monthly weight checks and is always a ball of energy!
Ozzy and his mum have been attending doggy classes to help him learn how to be best boy when he is out and about and recently completed their Bronze Test for The Kennel Club Good Citizen dog scheme.
Ozzy was so well behaved for the test he got too excited when they left and managed to rip his certificate, but thankfully it just adds to the story!!

Well done Ozzy!

⚠Important Updates to XL Bully & Section 1 Dog Exemption Rules in England and Wales ⚠

Defra has updated its guidance regarding exempted dogs under Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, including XL Bully dogs and Pit Bull Terriers, if you have an questions then please contact us to discuss it further.

The key changes are:
🔹 Third-Party Liability Insurance No Longer Required
From 1 July 2026, owners of exempted Section 1 dogs will no longer be required to maintain third-party public liability insurance as a condition of their Certificate of Exemption.
🔹 New Child Supervision Requirement
From 1 November 2026, it will become a legal requirement that a child under the age of 12 is not left in close contact with an exempted Section 1 dog in a private place (such as a home or garden) without adult supervision. This new requirement will form part of the conditions attached to a dog's Certificate of Exemption.
