🚨 Northern Ireland Could Lead UK on Aversive Collar Restrictions

Northern Ireland could be about to set a precedent for the rest of the UK.

On Monday, the Northern Ireland Assembly is due to debate a motion calling for restrictions on multiple aversive training devices, including shock collars, prong collars, choke chains and so called "grot collars".

While the motion itself would not immediately change the law, it is significant because it targets several aversive devices in a single legislative push rather than focusing on just one type of equipment.

The debate comes alongside a wider DAERA consultation on animal welfare reforms, which remains open until the 30th of June.

If supported, the motion would send a clear signal about the direction of future animal welfare policy in Northern Ireland and could be closely watched by policymakers elsewhere in the UK.

What do you think? Could Northern Ireland influence future policy across the rest of the UK?

Billy 🩵

Billy came for a 121 to help manage his reactivity around dogs. We looked at his critical distance and then got to work on giving him things to do to decompress on his walks.

He did so well and I am looking forward to hearing his progress.

Well done Billy 👏

POV: you think your dog is ignoring you… but they’re actually overwhelmed.

When a dog is overstimulated, everything feels bigger, louder, and harder to process - which means listening to you just isn’t possible at that moment.

That’s why calm comes first.

Because when your dog feels safe and settled, that’s when they can focus, learn, and respond 💛

“We’ve just finished puppy classes with our cockerpoo Wilma… we learnt so much!” 🐾

Puppy training isn’t just about teaching your dog - it’s about giving you the confidence and support you need too.

Being able to ask questions, feel supported, and know you’re not doing it alone makes all the difference 💛

And that support doesn’t just stop when the classes end.

If you’re starting your puppy journey and want guidance you can rely on, you’re in the right place 🐾

Unpopular opinion 👀

If you invest in yourself… your children… your health… your future…

Why wouldn’t you invest in your dog too? 🐶

People spend hundreds on toys, beds, collars, and treats…

But avoid the ONE thing that actually changes life with their dog long term:

➡️ Training.

A trained dog means:
✔ Less stress
✔ Safer walks
✔ More freedom
✔ Better confidence
✔ A calmer home
✔ Stronger trust between you and your dog

Your dog relies on YOU to teach them how to live in a human world.

They aren’t born knowing recall, calm behaviour, lead manners, or confidence.

Training isn’t just about obedience.

It’s about giving your dog the skills to succeed. 🐾

Because the truth is…

An untrained dog often ends up frustrated, anxious, overstimulated, or misunderstood.

You wouldn’t ignore your child’s education and hope for the best.

Dogs deserve guidance too. 💛

✨ The best time to train your dog was the day you got them.
✨ The second best time is now!

🚨 Things owners accidentally teach their dogs…

And honestly? Most people don’t even realise they’re doing it 👀🐶

🐾 Jumping gets attention
🐾 Pulling gets them there faster
🐾 Ignoring commands is okay after the 5th repeat
🐾 Recall means “the fun ends”

Dogs learn from EVERYTHING — not just training sessions.

The small daily habits matter more than most owners think. The good news is that once you understand WHY behaviours happen, training becomes so much easier 💛

✨ Better communication = better behaviour

Dog training isn’t just about teaching a dog to sit, stay, or walk nicely on lead.
It’s about people too. ❤️

So many owners quietly wonder:
“Am I doing this right?”
“Why does this feel harder than I expected?”
“Am I confusing my dog?”

The truth is — building a relationship with your dog takes time, patience, consistency, and trust. There’s no such thing as a perfect owner or a perfect dog. What matters most is showing up, learning together, and creating clear communication your dog can understand.

Confidence grows when you stop chasing perfection and start focusing on connection. Every small win matters:
🐾 The first calm walk
🐾 The moment your dog checks in with you
🐾 Choosing patience instead of frustration
🐾 Understanding what your dog needs

Training should never feel like pressure or judgement. It should feel empowering — for both ends of the lead.

You are capable of giving your dog the guidance they need. And your dog is capable of learning with kindness, structure, and consistency. 💛
