Paradise Wildlife Park is voted Hertfordshire’s No.1 Outdoor Attraction by Trip Advisor and is set in the beautiful surrounding of Broxbourne Woods in the Heart of the Hertfordshire Countryside. From speedway rider to transport operator, our founder Peter Sampson has lived many lives. But everything changed the day he met one remarkable lion 🦁.

That moment sparked a lifelong mission: transforming the lives of wild cats around the globe. Peter has not only led, but inspired generations to continue to rescue, protect, and help provide a future to some of the world’s most endangered animals.

His new biography, Nothing’s Impossible: The Peter Sampson Story tells the story of how one encounter shaped a life of courage, resilience, and conservation. Peter’s continued commitment led to the creation of Hertfordshire Zoo and The Big Cat Sanctuary, where Peter’s vision lives on today.

Lynn’s Taking on the Thames 200 Ultra! 🚣‍♀️

Our CEO & trustee of The Big Cat Sanctuary, Lynn Whitnall, is taking on another epic sporting challenge, this time by kayak to raise funds for The Big Cat Sanctuary’s 25th Anniversary and all the vital projects, rescues, and conservation work we do. 🐾💛

On Saturday 23rd August, Lynn will set off from Lechlade in the Cotswolds and paddle 125 miles along the iconic River Thames all the way to Teddington Lock in London, finishing on Sunday 24th August. 🙌

That’s through the night, tackling 44 locks, passing Windsor Castle, royal towpaths, and swapping between 2 teams of two paddlers along the way! 🌙

Lynn’s goal is to raise £25,000 to help:

🐆 Care for the cats at BCS, including our rescued Ukraine lions!
🐆 Fund our cheetah breeding centre!
🐆 Support conservation partners around the world!

When the pool is colder than expected... 😳

Jaguars are one of the few big cats that love water. In the wild, they use rivers and lakes to cool down, hunt, and move between territories. Their powerful limbs make them strong swimmers, and they’ve even been seen diving to catch fish and turtles. 💦

At Hertfordshire Zoo, our habitat Jaguar Jungle, features a large pool and enrichment that encourage this natural behaviour, giving our jaguars the chance to swim, splash, and show off their skills. 🐾
