England will soon be implementing a legal requirement starting the 10th of June 2024. This will involve all current cat owners and soon to be cat owners.

The mandatory legislation requires that all cat owners will have until the 10th June 2024 to microchip their cat and register their details.

All cats must be microchipped before 20 weeks of age, when they have been microchipped it is imperative for all owners to register their cat to an online microchip database, your veterinary practice should provide you with all the necessary details to register your pet correctly.

Owners found not to have their cat microchipped will have 21 days to get one implanted or may face a fine up to £500.

Microchipping your pets is an essential component of being a responsible pet owner. This new law now means that it will be a much easier process to reunite cats back with their owners. The whole process of implanting your pet takes not longer that 5-10minutes, it requires a small injection for this to be administered and most of the time your pet will enjoy a tasty treat to distract them!

We have seen a great deal of non - microchipped cats over the years, some being strays, cats that have unfortunately been involved in accidents and many others that have never been reunited with their owners.

Please follow the steps below to ensure you are ready for the changes:
- Book yourself a vet consultation to check the status of your cats microchip details.
- If you know your cat is not microchipped, book a vet consultation for you cat to be implanted.
- As soon as your cat has been microchipped please ensure you have all the correct paperwork and documents to register your cat online.
- Please keep all important microchipping documents in a safe place, this ensures if your cat ever goes missing that you have all the correct details.
