Summer hikes are amazing, but nature can bring some surprises your dog might not love. Before you kick back and relax, take a few minutes to check your furry friend for these com issues:
✔️ Look for cuts, abrasions, or stuck debris like thorns or burrs on their paw pads. Hot trails can also cause pad burns.
✔️ Run your fingers through their fur, especially around ears, neck, and belly to catch unwanted hitchhikers like ticks and fleas.
✔️ Grass seeds & burrs can get tangled in fur or even lodge in ears, eyes, and paws. Remove carefully!
✔️ Make sure your pup has plenty of fresh water after the hike to recover from the heat and exertion.
✔️ Look for signs of overheating, like heavy panting, drooling, weakness, or disorientation.
A little post-hike TLC goes a long way in keeping your adventurous buddy safe and happy!
