If your dog will only recall when there is no distraction, then there is still work to be done.

A reliable recall isn’t built by hoping your dog ignores distractions. It’s built by gradually teaching them how to make the right choice when distractions are present.

Start in environments with lower-level distractions, then slowly increase the difficulty as your dog becomes more successful and confident. Set them up to win, rather than asking too much too soon.

The goal isn’t a dog that recalls in the easy moments. It’s a dog that recalls when it really matters.

If your dog is still having accidents indoors. Try this!

Instead of filling their water bowl to the top, offer a smaller amount at a time. Some dogs will simply drink all of it because it’s there.

Once they’ve finished, take them straight outside for a toilet break. When you come back in, top the bowl up again.

You’re not limiting their water intake, you’re simply creating more opportunities for them to toilet in the right area.

Save this and send it to someone who’s struggling with toilet training. 🐶🚽

Stop comparing your dog to everyone else’s.

Genetics matter.

Some dogs are naturally easier to train. Others require more skill, more patience and more consistency.

That doesn’t mean you should lower your standards. It means you should judge progress based on the dog in front of you, not the one down the road.

The goal isn’t to have the same journey as everyone else.

The goal is to get the best out of your dog.

Have you ever felt like you were comparing your dog’s progress to someone else’s? 👇

Puppy toilet training still not working? 🚽

If your puppy keeps having accidents indoors, this could be why.

You might actually be praising them too early.

One mistake I see all the time is owners praising their puppy while they’re still toileting. They get excited, stop halfway through, and then finish the job once they’re back inside.

Instead, stay quiet while they’re toileting, let them completely finish, and then praise and reward them afterwards.

Have you ever noticed your puppy do this?

The three most important things to teach your puppy 👇

🏡 Settling in the home.

🦮 A decent level of lead walking.

📣 A reliable recall.

Get those right and you’ve pretty much nailed the foundations.

Everything else becomes so much easier to build on after that.

The secret to fixing puppy biting? 👇

Stop trying to stop it.

Puppies need to bite. The trick isn’t trying to eliminate it, it’s teaching them what they’re allowed to bite instead.

If I can make that toy more rewarding than my hands, I’ve already won.

Play with them. Let them bite the toy. Build loads of value in it.

Don’t fight your puppy’s instinct to bite and chew.

Give them a better outlet.

Save this for the puppy shark phase. 🦈

One of the biggest mistakes I see with new puppy owners is assuming that every problem needs more training.

More walks.
More play.
More stimulation.
More obedience.

Sometimes the exact opposite is true.

An overtired puppy will often struggle to regulate themselves. They become bitey, overexcited, zoom around the house, ignore cues they normally know and generally become much harder to live with.

That’s why teaching your puppy how to switch off is just as important as teaching sit, down or recall.

Don’t underestimate the power of a good nap.

Save this for the next time your puppy seems completely out of control, and follow along for more practical dog training tips.

The biggest mistake most dog owners make isn’t a lack of knowledge… it’s inconsistency.

You don’t need to spend hours training your dog every day.

You don’t need the perfect treats, the perfect lead, or some magic training technique.

What your dog really needs is consistency.

Dogs learn through repetition. They become confident when the rules stay the same. But if one day they’re allowed to jump up, the next day they’re told off, and the day after they’re ignored, it’s no surprise they get confused.

Five minutes every day will almost always get you better results than an hour once a week.

If your dog’s training has stalled, stop looking for the next tip, trick or technique. Instead, focus on being more consistent with what you’re already doing.

That’s where the biggest improvements are usually made.

Follow along for practical dog training advice that actually works.

Has your dog stopped listening when you use treats? Here’s why…

Most people think treats stop working because their dog has become stubborn.

In reality, they often become less effective because we’ve accidentally turned them into a bribe instead of a reward.

A bribe is using food to persuade your dog to make a decision.

A reward is paying your dog after they’ve already made the right choice.

When treats always predict the end of the walk, taking a stolen item away, or leaving something they wanted to investigate, your dog starts asking, “What’s the catch?”

Instead, make the exercise easy enough that your dog can succeed without seeing the reward first.

Mark the behaviour with your marker word, then reward generously for making a great decision.

That’s how you build a dog that listens because making the right choice consistently pays.
