We are delighted to have received this lovely testimonial from one of our regular clients today!

‘We cannot recommend RC Equine and Other Animals Services highly enough for her exceptional animal care services. Over the time Roxie has looked after our dogs, horses, and sheep, she has consistently demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and genuine care for our animals.

Roxie handles our pack of four dogs beautifully - our two working dogs, our lab, and our rather naughty Jack Russell. What really impresses us is how well she manages our nervous Border Collie, who tends to run away from most other people. With Roxie, we have complete confidence that our Border Collie will stay put and feel secure. Her natural ability to read each dog's temperament and adapt her approach accordingly is brilliant.

Roxie's thoroughness in her work gives us complete peace of mind - we know that every animal is receiving the care and attention they need. Her friendly and helpful nature makes her a pleasure to work with, and it's clear that she truly loves what she does. Our animals have always been comfortable and happy in her care, which speaks volumes about her natural ability with different types of livestock and pets.

Roxie is a lovely person - reliable, trustworthy, and always going the extra mile. If you're looking for someone to care for your animals, you couldn't ask for better than Roxie.’

❤️ If You Give a Kid a Horse....

If you give a kid a horse,
they’ll ask for a saddle.
Once they have a saddle,
they’ll need a good pair of boots.

When they get those boots,
they’ll want to climb in the saddle.
Once they’re in the stirrups,
they’ll ask you how to hold the reins.

When they learn to hold the reins,
they’ll beg to trot.
Once they learn to trot,
they’ll dream of galloping across open fields.

Galloping will make them feel free,
and feeling free will make them brave.
Once they’re brave,
they’ll fall off...but don't worry, they’ll get back on.

And when they get back on,
they’ll ride with grit in their teeth and stars in their eyes.
They’ll muck stalls without complaint,
and wake up before the sun just to feed.

They’ll brush that horse’s coat,
And let the rhythm calm their soul.
They’ll learn patience, responsibility,
and how to speak without words.

They’ll whisper to that horse all their hopes,
and that horse will listen like no one else can.
They’ll build friendships in dusty arenas,
and learn trust on winding trails.
They’ll know the thrill of a blue ribbon,
and the heartbreak of a goodbye.

If you give a kid a horse,
you’ll give them more than just a ride...
you’ll give them confidence,
courage,
and a quiet kind of strength
that’ll stay with them for life.

Because if you give a kid a horse...
you’ll change them forever.

Wow! What a jump ⭐️

Princess Anne “catching some air” over the notorious Ledyard Coffin back in one of the three “Ledyard Internationals” 1973, 1975, or 1977, hosted by Neil and Helen Ayer at their Ledyard Farm in South Hamilton, Massachusetts.

Neil was both Master of Myopia and president of the USCTA (now USEA) and he understood that the best way to have lots of USA riders deal with the intense pressures of competing against the best 3-day riders in the world was to induce riders from abroad to come to America to compete, so he personally created a cross country course at his own farm and personally paid air fare for European horses and riders.

It worked. USET squads won gold in 1974, 1976, and 1982. And while this might have happened without Neil’s intervention, my guess, as one of the American riders who competed at Ledyard, is that Ledyard provided a launching pad.

And back to Princess Anne. She was the real deal as a rider.

𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀! The days are noticeably longer, on mild days the grass is growing and must smell delicious with promises of spring so near, but yet, it’s still winter and not yet ready to relinquish its chilly grip. Horses can be tetchy, itchy as their coats are starting change and restless with the extra daylight.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺?
▪ Make the most of any fine or dry days to turn out for a bit longer, ideally without a rug.

▪ Consider adding 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱 to help with itchy, moulting coats. Linseed has the perfect balance of omega oils to help soothe itchy skin and ensure the new coat comes through glossy and smooth. For an average 500kg horse add 125g per day to their existing feed.

▪Take advantage of finer spells to take your horse out with friends for a hack, maybe even boxing up to somewhere more interesting to ride than the usual home beat.

▪ Put the different ingredients of your horse’s feed in different feed bowls in different places in the stable so there is some choice.

▪ Simple System forage Brix are perfect for adding some enrichment and variety. Have you tried our 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘅 yet? And of course, our ever-popular 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘅 and 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘅. Just pop them on the floor for your horse to gnaw on – but only if they have good teeth for chewing.

▪Consider that horses are grazers, most of their natural diet being at ground level, so feed as much as possible from low levels. Haynets, if used, need to be safe, but not so high as to cause the horse to crick their neck.

Bear with it! Spring won’t be long now.
