Here’s some advice from Martin & Carr Vets regarding what to look out for for signs of heatstroke.

I don’t think for one second that any of you lovely owners will be walking your dogs in the heat this week, but I thought it useful for us all to be reminded about how to help any dog who you see suffering in this heat, whose owners are less considerate.

🌡️ Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-30s this week, so please remember to keep your pets safe in the heat🐾

Walking your pets in these temperatures can massively increase their risk of heat stroke. Please avoid walking dogs during the hottest parts of the day, and ensure all cats and rabbits have plenty of fresh water, access to shade, and a cool place to rest.

Signs of heat stroke can include:
🔥Excessive panting
🔥 Drooling
🔥 Lethargy or weakness
🔥 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🔥 Confusion or collapse

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heat stroke, cool them down immediately by getting them as wet as possible with cool (not ice-cold) water, especially around their body and paws, and contact your vet straight away!

Bolli was 10 months old when she first came to stay with us, and I can’t believe this little girl, who has spent the last week with us, will be 10 years old next month.

After sustaining a major back injury during a horrible accident a couple of years ago, she has to now be treated with kid gloves, but that doesn’t stop us having fun with this happy, tail wagging, cuddly little girl, when she comes to stay.

Yes, she’s sometimes needed to be carried up the stairs to bed during her stay with us this week, and she needs to be lifted in and out of the car for her own safety, but when you’re rewarded with a Bolli smile (yes, she genuinely smiles), it makes it all worthwhile.

Milo and Robin are reunited.

He squeaks like an excited guinea pig, has a tail that wags so fast that it looks like it’s still, takes the Barry White approach to your leg if he feels the attention that you’re paying him has waned a little, and has the craziest paw/eye coordination that you’ve ever seen when it comes to catching a ball… and we love him to bits.

Once you’ve won Milo’s confidence he will shower you with kisses and be your friend for life, and what a smiley, happy, busy little friend to have.

Enrichment is the buzz word in the Home Boarding licence world at the moment, so for Milo’s last day with us today we decided to all be enriched with a trip to Madresfield Court Open Gardens and Village Fete.

Good grief… Milo is such a flirt in crowds!!! All the ladies loved him (Robin has suggested he might bring Milo on his own next year 🤣).

Sheep dog trials, birds of prey demos, a brass band, an accidental sip of a lager shandy, exploring old tractors, sniffing numerous dogs’ bottoms, and a nibble of the end of a hot dog I think provided ample enrichment for one day for little Milo. 🤣

Now I’m no dog groomer, but as a licensed home boarder I must do all that I can to maintain a dog’s welfare, and this includes (especially with curly or long haired breeds) taking care of a their coat to prevent knots/matting.

I always like to return a dog back to their owner at the end of a holiday clean, fresh, and looking their absolute best (on the occasion in the photo Winnie had been invited to an afternoon tea at our friends’ house so had to be well turned out for some full on socialising).

Whoever you board your dog with it would be worth checking that they will groom your dog daily to keep them comfortable, and avoid a trip to the groomers as soon as you’re back off of your holiday.
