Last night I found this grass seed in Caffrey's armpit, it had started to break the skin. Those of you who know me will know the trauma I've had with grass seeds with a previous dog.

I've also had clients with dogs who have had serious injuries as a result of grass seeds and sadly one who passed away.

These type of grass seeds, once they break the skin, can start to travel into and through the body causing havoc along the way.

Please, please check your dogs after every walk and then check them again. Feel all over their body especially ears, eyes, in between toes, arm pits and crevices.

If your dog starts scratching an area - check it thoroughly. If they start head shaking, violently sneezing or chewing on their feet take them to the vet immediately, don't waste any time as that could make the difference.

Try to avoid areas with long grass if possible or keep dogs on leads in those areas.

We are investigating attempted vehicle thefts in Eastergate and the surrounding area, can you help?

It follows reports that a group of teenage boys were seen attempting to gain entry into vehicles in the early hours of 28th May 2025.

An off-duty Police Officer detained a 16-year-old boy and was supported by Officers including those with a drone and a Police dog. Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate the other suspects.

Officers later recovered a stolen vehicle and a number of suspected stolen items which are believed to be linked to this incident. Several thousand pounds worth of stolen tools will shortly be reunited with their legitimate owner and we hope to be able to do the same with the other recovered property as our investigation continues.

We would like to encourage anyone who has had their car broken into, particularly in the Eastergate, Barnham and Yapton area to please report the incident to us.

Anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage can report it to us online, quoting serial 63 of 28/05.

Be wary of pet chip scam

We've been made aware of a potential microchip scam targeting pet owners, and we want to make sure our community stays informed and protected.

A client recently received an email from “Petchip Network”, stating that her dog’s microchip would be deactivated unless a payment was made via PayPal. Alarmingly, the email included her correct contact details, her dog’s information, and even a photo previously used for pet insurance.

While Petchip Network appears to be a real website, it is not a UK government approved microchip database and does not comply with UK microchipping regulations.

If you receive a suspicious message like this, do not make any payment or share personal information. Instead, contact your microchip database directly to confirm your details.

I am closed on Tuesday's as I volunteer with Guide Dogs. Due to illnesses our classes have been cancelled today so what better way to spend the morning than going round to support other local independent businesses.

First call was to Lloyds Bank, lovely to see it so busy.

Then off to the very well established Sweet Jar in the Arcade to fix my sugar craving, nice to see Matt in there today.

Other independents in town that I can personally recommend are Bubbles, Karizma, Unique Workwear, Heygates Bookshop, Magna, The Clock House, Good & Fair Bognor, London Road Café and the Cafe in the Park.

On the way home I popped in to see the lovely Danielle for some advice as I needed some colour in our planter ... guard-ner dog on duty, they will look great once planted. Plants from perfect arrangement
