🐾 Choosing a Dog Trainer 🐾
Did you know that anyone can call themselves a dog trainer?
Unlike many professions, dog training is largely unregulated, meaning there is no legal requirement for qualifications before offering services to the public.
When choosing a trainer, don't just look for a badge or membership. Ask what methods they use, what equipment they recommend, and how they approach behaviour change.
Qualifications and accreditation are important, but your dog's welfare should always come first.
Look for trainers who can explain how they teach, who engage in continuing professional development, and whose methods focus on building confidence, understanding and trust rather than fear, pain, intimidation or suppression.
Ask questions:
✔ What qualifications do you hold?
✔ What ongoing training or CPD do you undertake?
✔ What equipment do you use and why?
✔ How do you help dogs learn new behaviours?
✔ How do you support both the dog and the owner?
As an accredited IMDT trainer, I believe in evidence-based, welfare-focused training that prioritises both the emotional and physical wellbeing of the dog.
Here at Around the Block Dog Supplies, you'll also find Beccy, a Level 4 BCCS-qualified Canine Behaviourist with over five years of experience and extensive IMDT training.
Our dogs cannot choose their trainers.
They rely on us to make informed choices on their behalf.
Be their advocate. 🐾🧡
