โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿถ Hope everyone had a fabulous Bank Holiday with your dogs ๐Ÿถโ˜€๏ธ

With the next few days forecast to stay extremely warm, itโ€™s important to help keep our dogs safe and comfortable. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Remember:
๐Ÿพ Walk early morning or later in the evening
๐Ÿพ Avoid hot pavements โ€” if itโ€™s too hot for your hand, itโ€™s too hot for paws
๐Ÿพ Provide plenty of fresh water and shady spots
๐Ÿพ Swap walks for enrichment games, sniffing activities, paddling pools, or frozen treats
๐Ÿพ Never leave your dog in a car โ€” even for a few minutes
๐Ÿพ Watch for signs of heatstroke such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse

Not every dog enjoys the heat and some breeds, puppies and senior dogs can struggle much more in warmer temperatures. Sometimes the safest thing you can do is skip the walk altogether. A mentally enriched dog is often far happier than an overheated one!๐Ÿฅต

Stay safe, keep cool and enjoy the sunshine responsibly with your four-legged friends ๐Ÿ•โ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿพโœจ Why Intro Grooming Sessions Matter โœจ๐Ÿพ

Introducing your dog to grooming in a calm and positive way can make such a difference. Early grooming sessions help your dog build happy associations with visits to the salon, making each appointment a far more enjoyable experience for both your dog and their groomer. ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿถ

Many dogs can feel unsure about being handled, having paws touched, or standing still for brushing and trimming. By preparing them at home with simple confidence-building exercises, you can help set them up for success. ๐Ÿ’›

Little training games such as touch and chin rest are so good for helping dogs feel comfortable with handling and building trust. These small skills can make grooming visits smoother, calmer and stress-free. ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿพ

Choosing a consent-based groomer who puts your dogโ€™s welfare, comfort and emotional wellbeing first is so important. A groomer who listens to your dogโ€™s body language and works at their pace can make all the difference. ๐Ÿ•โœจ

๐Ÿพโœจ Ozzie had a brilliant session on our weekly walk! He is learning to check in beautifully, stay close and we saw some lovely loose lead walking too. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ•
Even better, Ozzie is starting to switch off from being hyper-vigilant and constantly scanning the environment, instead slowing down and enjoying a relaxing sniffari. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿพ - this is such an important skill for helping dogs feel calmer and happier out on their walks.

So proud of this clever boy and all the progress he is making! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿพโœจ Gryff has made amazing progress! โœจ๐Ÿพ

This clever Collie brain is learning to find the dimmer switch ๐Ÿ’ก instead of being hyper-vigilant and scanning the environment all the time ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ•. Gryff is discovering that not everything is his business and that walks can be calm, enjoyable adventures with Mum instead of always being โ€œon duty.โ€ ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿพ
He has learned to chill out and sniff on walks ๐Ÿ‘ƒ. Sniffing is such an important natural behaviour and a brilliant way for dogs to decompress and enjoy their surroundings.

Mum said he couldnโ€™t do middle because he was scared going into position through the legs โ€” but with some gentle encouragement and patience, Gryff soon proved her wrong! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’› Sometimes our dogs just need us to believe in them and guide them at their pace.

Watching him relax, make better choices and grow in confidence has been fantastic. Well done Gryff and Mum for all your hard work! โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ

If your dog struggles to switch off, stay calm on walks, or enjoy the world around them, get in touch โ€” Iโ€™d love to help you and your dog build confidence and enjoy happier walks together. ๐Ÿ“ฉ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Meet Arna ๐Ÿพ

This lovely Basset Hound x Spaniel rescue dog has started her training journey with Happy Tails Dog Training after Mum got in touch for help with recall, reactivity towards certain dogs out on walks, jumping up, and achieving nice loose lead walking. ๐Ÿ•โœจ

Arna is a sweet girl and like many rescue dogs, she just needs a little guidance, confidence and support to help her make better choices out and about. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿพ

Weโ€™ll be working on building her disengagement skills so she can calmly notice things in the environment without feeling the need to react, alongside creating a strong, reliable recall so Mum can feel more relaxed and confident on walks. ๐ŸŽพ๐Ÿ‘
Weโ€™ll also be focusing on polite greetings with four paws on the floor and teaching Arna that walking nicely on a loose lead makes adventures far more enjoyable for everyone. ๐Ÿฆฎ๐Ÿ’›

Recall isnโ€™t just about coming back when called โ€” itโ€™s about making YOU the most rewarding and exciting thing in your dogโ€™s world, even around distractions! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿถ
Arna made a brilliant start and I canโ€™t wait to see her progress ๐ŸŒŸ

If youโ€™re struggling with recall, reactivity, pulling on the lead, jumping up, or general manners, get in touch โ€” Iโ€™d love to help you and your dog enjoy calmer, happier walks together. ๐Ÿพ
