I don’t usually post about other people’s approaches, but I do feel strongly about this.
As someone who works with dogs every day, I want to be clear about the values behind my business. I do not believe that fear, pain, intimidation, or punishment should be used. Whether we’re talking about training, handling, grooming or any other part of a dog’s life, I believe animals deserve to feel safe, respected, and understood.
The way we treat dogs matters. Building trust through kindness, patience, and positive reinforcement creates a stronger relationship and supports a dog’s emotional wellbeing as well as their behaviour.
In my grooming salon, welfare always comes first. I want every dog that comes through my door to leave feeling safe and cared for, not frightened. And if I’m ever asked to recommend a trainer, dog walker, boarder etc I will always recommend ethical, force-free, positive reinforcement. Someone whose methods are based on compassion and welfare.
There are different opinions in the dog world, but this is where I stand, and I feel it’s important that my clients know that.
Kindness is not weakness. Compassion is not ineffective. Dogs deserve better than fear.
Thank you to everyone who supports businesses that put animal welfare first.
