What a fantastic way to approach a sensitive issue!

What a fantastic way to approach a sensitive issue!

To all of our customers At Wirral Riding Centre - as you know the welfare of our horses is always our highest priority 🐴 ♥️

As part of this commitment, our CLTH young people learn not only how to ride, but also how to care for horses responsibly and understand their physical and emotional needs.
One of the units we have recently focused on is Ride Fit, which looks in detail at how to keep both horses and riders safe and healthy. To support this learning, our CLTH participants and coaches have been working together to weigh each of our horses and ponies. We have also weighed the tack individually and subtracted this from each total, allowing us to calculate appropriate rider weight ranges for every horse in our care.

✨The process is complete and we now have a system that all of our customers can use to understand which horses are suitable for them to ride. Instead of displaying numbers, the scales show a simple colour chart, which corresponds with the colour range allocated to each horse. This ensures the process remains private, supportive, and focused solely on horse welfare.

From tonight, each customer will be able to step onto the colour-coded scales and use the colour result to see which horses fall within their riding options - we will then need you to edit your rider profile and add your colour zone next to your name e.g. Phil Jones (Blue). You can also talk to Louise/instructors as and when you book your lessons so you are horsed correctly.

🌟 We ask our customers to support this system and to remember that the colour isn’t a true reflection of their body weight because they will be required to stand on the scales in all of their riding attire, it is just purely for their riding options.

🫶🏼 We want all of our customers to feel comfortable with this process so please chat to Debbie or Rachel if you have any questions or concerns.

It is important to note that some changes could be made, and final decisions will be made at the discretion of the Manager e.g. riding ability, balance etc.

Thankfully we haven’t any cases close to us as yet but it’s worth knowing what to look out for.
