Fleas aren’t just irritating for your dog or cat - they can cause itching, skin infections, and spread quickly to other pets and even your home (probably causing you to itch too!).

How to spot fleas:
✔️ Excessive scratching or biting at the skin
✔️ Tiny black specks in the coat (flea dirt)
✔️ Red, irritated patches of skin
✔️ Live fleas moving through the fur

How fleas spread:
👉🏼 other infested animals
👉🏼 long grass, parks and fields
👉🏼 they even travel on our clothes and shoes

🐾 Our Flea Policy:
If we discover fleas during your pet’s groom, there will be an additional £20 charge.

Here’s why
🪳We have to stop immediately and deep-clean the salon to prevent fleas spreading to other pets.
🫧 Special flea shampoo and treatment products are required.
💦 Extra time is needed to ensure your pet, our equipment, and the salon are safe and hygienic.

The best way to avoid this is prevention. Regular flea treatment from your vet is simple, effective, and keeps your pet (and your home) comfortable and itch-free.

If you’re unsure whether your pet has fleas, check their coat regularly - especially around the neck, base of the tail, and belly. And if you need advice, we’re happy to help.

If you haven't seen already, we offer The Pupaccino Package, where we introduce your puppy to the idea of grooming in stages, before doing a full groom.

Stage 1: Meet & Treat
Stage 2: Stay, Play & Learn
Stage 3: Bath & Brush
Stage 4: Big Pup Haircut

We don't move onto the full groom until your puppy has successfully (and happily!) made their way through stages 1-3.

Brushing your dog properly depends on their coat type and using the right tools makes a big difference.

Here’s a quick guide to what works best:

🔹 Short coats (e.g. Staffies, Frenchies)
Use a rubber curry brush or bristle brush once or twice a week to remove loose hair and keep the coat shiny.

🔹 Long coats (e.g. Shih Tzus, Spaniels)
Use a slicker brush and a comb. Focus on areas that mat easily like ears, legs and tails. Daily brushing is best to stay on top of tangles.

🔹 Double coats (e.g. Retrievers, Huskies)
Use an undercoat rake to remove dead hair, followed by a slicker brush. Avoid shaving — it can damage the coat and affect temperature regulation.

🔹 Curly coats (e.g. Poodles, Cockapoos)
Use a slicker brush and a metal comb to get right down to the skin. These coats matt quickly, so regular brushing at home is essential between grooms.

🔹 Wire coats (e.g. Border Terriers)
These need a firm slicker brush or hand-stripping, depending on the coat. Regular brushing helps maintain texture and avoid knots.

Keeping up with brushing at home helps reduce matting, makes grooming appointments easier, and keeps your dog more comfortable.

Ticks, fleas, and grass seeds are out in full force across the UK this time of year - and they can cause more harm than you think.

Here’s what to watch for 👇🏼

Ticks - tiny bloodsuckers often found in long grass or wooded areas.
✔️ Check around ears, neck, armpits, and toes after walks.
❗If you spot one, use a proper tick remover - never pull or twist.
🛡 Prevention: Speak to your vet about monthly protection.

Fleas - fast-moving and itchy.
✔️ Look for excessive scratching, flea dirt (black specs), or red bumps.
🛡 Prevention: Use vet-approved flea treatments year-round, not just in summer.

Grass Seeds - small but mighty.
✔️ Check between toes, ears, armpits & eyes.
❗They can burrow into the skin, causing infections or even needing surgery.
🛁 Regular grooming helps you spot and remove them early.

Prevention Tips:
✨ Keep your pet’s coat trimmed and clean
✨ Groom regularly to check for sneaky hitchhikers
✨ Avoid long grass where possible
✨ Stay up to date with parasite protection
✨ Use ear protection (like Flynn and Hudson have on in this photo) - especially in dogs with long fluffy ears!

After every walk, give your dog a quick once-over - it could save them a trip to the vet.

Protecting those sensitive ears! 🙉

Some dogs find the sound of the hair dryer a bit too loud or stressful - so we use a soft, snug ear cover to help muffle the noise and keep them calm during drying.

If your dog isn't a fan of loud noises and is a bit nervous, let us know and we'll make sure we do things like this to keep them as happy, comfortable and stress-free as possible!

Let’s talk about matted fur and why it’s more than just a cosmetic issue.

Matted fur isn’t just uncomfortable for your dog, it can lead to serious skin problems and pain. When fur becomes tangled and knotted close to the skin, it can:

🔸 Trap moisture and dirt
🔸 Create painful pulling on the skin
🔸 Hide fleas, ticks, and skin infections
🔸 Restrict movement, especially around joints
🔸 Cut off airflow to the skin, causing sores or hotspots

In severe cases, mats can even lead to open wounds, hematomas, or restricted blood flow - not good!

The good news is that regular brushing and professional grooming can prevent mats before they form. For long-haired or curly-coated breeds, this is especially important!

If your pup is already matted, don’t worry - we’re here to help. We’ll assess their coat and decide the safest, most compassionate way to get them feeling good again. Sometimes that means a short shave, but comfort always comes before style and their coat will grow back!
