One of the biggest challenges of running a dog walking business is that our income is entirely dependent on being able to provide our services. Unlike many jobs, if we can't work, we don't get paid ๐
During periods of extreme heat, walks are simply not safe so they have to be cancelled. The welfare of dogs will always be my number one priority regardless of the financial impact ๐ถ
I always offer garden visits as an alternative, however many customers choose to stay home with their dogs instead, meaning those bookings are often cancelled too โ
While keeping dogs safe is never questionable for me, it does mean losing several weeks worth of income over the summer months with no opportunity to make it back. This can be extremely tough and is definitely one of the less visible realities of running a seasonal, weather-dependent small business ๐
