I am heading off on holiday tomorrow and once I'm on the autobahn the podcasts will come out.

This is one I will be listening to.

From my own experience I know the impact my dodgy ankle has on the whole right side of my body and if I just looked at the ankle I would still have a uncomfortable glute and shoulder!

It's important to consider any animal in the same way. A dog is not just made up of its component parts so why would we look just at a single joint or area, as a Galen Myotherapist this is one of the first things we are taught the dog "as a whole".

"Thanks for this afternoon. It was fabulous to watch and experience".

This made me smile and a reminder that we can also have a positive impact on a caregiver too.

Rafferty, the Irish Water Spaniel, has a number of issues and his guardian wasn't sure he would settle but using the Galen Myotherapy Positive Pact © protocol we were able to build on every session and alongside his primary care vet ease the discomfort he was feeling.

Rafferty is off on a new adventure soon but our 3 sessions have given him a base to understand the Galen Myotherapy process and hopefully he will continue the journey in his new home.

Enjoy Yorkshire Rafferty and maybe see you again, when visiting Kent 🤎

A very interesting listen and excited for all the future episodes.

I've followed both for a while and found everything insightful 🐾

🎙️ NEW PODCAST: Inside the Canine Athlete

At The Athletic Dog, we believe every movement tells a story.

Sometimes that story is about performance.

Sometimes it’s about injury.

Sometimes it’s about recovery.

And sometimes it’s about recognizing subtle changes early enough that an injury never happens in the first place.

That philosophy is one of the reasons I’m so excited to share Inside the Canine Athlete, a new podcast I’m co-hosting with my friend and colleague, Dr. Jana Gams (Dogs4Motion).

Together, we’ll explore the evolving world of canine performance, Performance Medicine, and longevity, bringing together the latest science, clinical experience, and practical strategies to help dogs move better, perform longer, and enjoy healthier, more active lives.

Along the way, we’ll be joined by world-renowned researchers, veterinarians, rehabilitation professionals, trainers, competitors, and other innovators who are helping shape the future of canine performance and health.

Whether your dog competes in agility, flyball, dock diving, field work, obedience, protection sports—or is simply your favorite hiking companion—our goal is the same:

Helping dogs stay healthier, perform at their best, and enjoy longer, more active lives.

This podcast isn’t just about treating injuries.

It’s about understanding how they develop, how to recognize problems earlier, and how thoughtful, evidence-based Performance Medicine can help keep dogs doing what they love for years to come.

Episode 0 is our introduction—who we are, why we created this podcast, and where we hope this journey will take us.

We hope you’ll join us from the very beginning.

👇 I’d love to hear from you…

What topics would you like us to explore in future episodes?

Your ideas will help shape future conversations, and there’s a good chance your question could become an upcoming episode.

Such a great visual on how we need to see the dog in front of us as a whole and not just individual parts 🐾

Chronic pain is complex.

It is not always linked to a single injury or condition and can be influenced by factors such as compensation patterns, muscular tension, previous injuries, and mobility changes.

Dogs experiencing chronic pain may show subtle signs including changes in movement, posture, behaviour, performance, or sleep.

Because chronic pain is multifactorial, support often involves a multidisciplinary approach to help improve comfort, mobility, function, and quality of life; and this is where a Galen Myotherapist is an invaluable member of your dog’s team.

This week I've been to see two clients who I first met through Canicross. Both are now retired but they are still young at heart 💖

Maxy Max and Captain Jack both see me for regular maintenance sessions. This is an opportunity to check for any compensatory changes as well as just a time to relax.

If you have an older dog and want to find out more, get in touch 🙏🏼

Such a great visual which explains some of the observations I'm regularly looking for during assessment 🐾
