We donated 365kg of Guinea pig/rabbit food recently to Almost Home Animal Rescue NI who immediatley shared it with Northern Ireland Battery Hen Rescue.

It is with profound sadness that I write this. Dolly and DG are gone 😢.
The past 24 hours have been horrendous with DG passing unexpectedly, although he did have arthritis and we were treating him for it, we didn't expect him to pass suddenly.
Then, with the advice of our lovely vet and surrounded by her carers and family Dolly also went over rainbow bridge.
Dolly enjoyed belly and ear scratches in her final moments, along with a heel of bread, her favourite treat.
As her carer it's important to me to be there in those final moments where possible.
DG and Dolly were not just sanctuary animals, they were family, and loved by many.
Both had the sweetest nature and loved nothing more than getting their treats and coming to say hi to everyone.
I don't know how animal rescue's do this day-in and day-out, but I do respect you greatly for it.
Thank you to everyone that donated to help Dolly over the past few weeks, I promise that we tried everything possible.
I also have a few others to thank, but will do that in another post.

Today, our vet was able to isolate, and sever, the nerve that was causing Dolly's leg to stiffen and ultimately stopping her from standing and walking. That's the nerve around the finger in the second pic. It branches off into two, one of which is now cut.
This was major as the outcome today was 50/50 and we could be writing a very different post tonight......
However, we are not out of the woods at all and Dolly needs to FIGHT!
Vet will be back tomorrow and we'll be getting her to stand up......another hurdle in this journey.
It either worked.......or it didn't, and we won't know until tomorrow afternoon.
I'm an absolute wreck, but with support of neighbours and you Strayers I know she will come through....she MUST!

🐮Dolly update🐮
So, Dolly is suffering from Spastic Paresis, and would have been born with it. Our vet and I have been discussing her long-term care.
An operation is the only real solution as she is currently having bouts of good and bad days. And honestly, without it, Dolly won't make another a few days on her own.
I don't know the full cost of the op yet, and there are huge risks as she would need to go under general anaesthetic.
There is also no guarantee it will work, but where there's even a slim chance we want to give that to her.

Gentle reminder to rescues......you need to ASK if you need items.....again and again if necessary. It's how we work. We have no idea who needs what and when. There's over 40 rescues locally on my last count. We are human and forget/miss/overlook things. We also only have what is donated at the time you ask, this can change in a day. We do NOT go out of our way to ignore anyone.

Hi everyone, we've just been shown a message of what an animal rescue said about PlayforStrays.
"They've never helped us, only give to their favourites!"
This is a real disappointment to know that all they had to do was ask, we NEED you to ask, just like our 'favourites' do. With 40+ rescues in NI alone we don't waste time, food and resources by calling around or sending items unnecessarily. Every rescue has their own way of doing things, the food or cat litter they use, even if their animals have certain toys or not, so we're not sending items they don't want for the sake of it.
So please just ask, and if we don't have food today you're next on the list for when we do. And if you have to, ask again and again and again. It's not badgering us, we NEED rescue's to do this. You are welcome to ask by message or call, and if you don't want to post on your social media, no problem, we're happy to anonymise.

Where's Dolly!? 🐄😀
Yesterday, Dolly WALKED from the field she was recuperating in, into the trailer, and into the Sanctuary garden, staying upright all the way! 💪🏽🙌🏾
She is getting up and down herself now in the garden and can be seen here sheltering from today's rain 🥲

I'm so sad 😔
Our Dolly isn't well and nothing seems to be helping her much 😕 She's been on a downward spiral the past couple of weeks.
The vet gave her steroids today and she will need some more over the next few days.
Her back legs buckle under her if she moves incorrectly, and so I have to physically lift her into a standing position multiple times a day with the help of a friend.
If she goes over on her side she's stuck fast.....and cries. I've never heard a cow cry before, it's heartbreaking 😪
I'm a realist and can see where this is likely heading, but it's OK to wish for a miracle....right?
