☀️ Is your horse ready for the heatwave? ☀️
When temperatures rise, a few simple changes can help keep your horse comfortable, hydrated and healthy.
💧 Always provide access to clean, fresh water and check troughs regularly.
🌳 Ensure horses have access to shade, whether that's a field shelter, trees or a shaded area in the paddock.
🥣 Increase hydration through feed by soaking a Grassabix block to create a refreshing forage mash. Haylage can also help, as it naturally contains more moisture than hay.
☀️ Don't forget suncream on pink-skinned or bald noses to help protect against sunburn.
🐴 Plan exercise for early mornings or late evenings when temperatures are cooler.
🌙 If you're opting for night turnout, make daytime stabling more enjoyable with plenty of enrichment. A Silvermoor Sw***er encourages natural foraging behaviour, promotes saliva production to support gut health and helps keep horses entertained for longer.
These are just a few of our top tips for keeping horses safe and comfortable during hot weather.
