Located just 5 minutes from Aboyne and 15min from Banchory, our yard provides direct access to scenic off-road hacking routes — through Bellwoods, River Dee, and towards the hills of Ballater, Loch Muick and Braemar. rm (WHW), exploring local trails, or simply looking for a calm, safe place to ride and relax, our gates are always open to you and your pony. We welcome horse owners for short visits, grass arena hire, or a few quiet hours of hacking and photography. The yard is private and secure, with paddocks, stables, and off-road access for a relaxed experience away from traffic and noise. An on-site and online shop will soon offer a selection of trusted feeds, hay rings, and everyday essentials for horses and ponies — with plans to add cosy woodland lodges in the coming years. For those who enjoy other adventures too, Aboyne Bike Park and the surrounding trials are only minutes away - making Royal Deeside a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Deeside Trot and Stay is a place where horses can unwind, riders can reconnect with nature, and every visit feels like a small adventure in the calm of the countryside.

What a weekend at Deeside Trot and Stay 📍🐴

We feel incredibly fortunate to be based so close to Balmoral Castle and Balmoral Estate and to have welcomed ponies and riders from all over Scotland celebrating the BHS Scotland 60th Anniversary Celebration Ride at Balmoral Estate.

A huge thank you to all of our visitors for choosing to stay with us 🥰.
We loved meeting everyone, and it was so lovely seeing the ponies settle in almost straight away and relax in their paddocks after their travels.

Throughout the weekend we put every effort into keeping all horses safe and comfortable, with biosecurity measures in place to help protect everyone staying with us.

We were so happy to welcome visitors travelling from the North of City of Inverness, Highlands of Scotland, Glasgow and Falkirk, and we would absolutely love to see everyone back again next year 🐴
If you are travelling north for competitions, holidays or events, we are also only around 25 minutes from Bogenraith Equestrian and around 40 minutes from Tillyoch Equestrian, Therapy and Rehab Centre.

This weekend has been so lovely here at Deeside Trot & Stay 🐴

We’ve really enjoyed welcoming horses travelling to the BHS Scotland 60th Anniversary Celebration Ride at Balmoral Estate and giving them a quiet little space to relax before and after their big adventures.

It’s been so nice seeing riders from all over Scotland passing through Royal Deeside with their lovely ponies. We feel very lucky to be such a small part of these special weekends.

If you’re travelling a distance with your horse — for an event, a qualifier, or simply passing through — we have a few quiet, safe boarding spaces here at Deeside Trot & Stay.

We offer individual paddocks, calm surroundings, plenty of hay, fresh water, and that feeling of being properly looked after after a long journey.
It’s a place to let your horse breathe, settle, and rest.

It was an 80cm class — one of those where your heart beats a bit faster, even when you’re only watching. A
Bella was honest and kept trying, and Ala stayed calm and just kept her going forward.
It wasn’t perfect, but it was a really good round-the kind of round that actually matters.
I’m so proud of both of you x

Back out to the fields as the light softened and everything slowed down.
Checking the ponies, topping up hay, making sure everyone was warm, settled, and content.
The ponies were great. Sandy was trying to give Ala a kiss — but Jack was the one who quietly stole the show.
One small fist bump, just to make his point.
Cold again... yes.
Exactly where we wanted to be.

Winter doesn’t stop us — it just means we tweak the plan and work with what we’ve got.
It gets dark far too quickly these days — but we’re lucky to have great equestrian facilities right on our doorstep. ❣️

After miles on the road and shows around Scotland, there’s no better feeling than being home fr I just wish there were more short-stay places along the way - even an hour for our ponies to stretch and rest would make such a difference.
