Meet 'Silver' the Maremmano-Abruzzese Sheepdog.

Silver is in our Pet Health Club and came in to our Torphins surgery this week for a 6 month health check with our nursing team. Isn't he just gorgeous and he certainly loved being at the vets too.

6 Month Health checks are included in our Pet Health Club Plan so there was nothing for Silvers owner to pay on the day. Its also a great socialisation opportunity for dogs to come to the vet and have a great experience of meeting our staff, getting lots of cuddles and maybe even the odd treat!

BVD Eradication Scheme - Phase 6

A reminder to all our cattle owners of the changes around BVD that came into place on the 1 July 2025

⭐️Persistently Infected (PI) animals on a Non-Breeding holding must be separately housed from the first positive test. If a PI animal is still present within the keepership after 40 days, the CPH will be listed on the PI locator on ScotEID (in line with breeding herds).
⭐️BVD sampling from birth can now be carried out using management tags, although official tags are still recommended.
⭐️A 40 day period is allowed after the upload of a BVD Positive antigen/virus result, before ON movement restrictions are imposed. This period allows time for retesting of the PI by the vet, and/or removal of the animal. It is advised that the retest is carried out at least 3 weeks after the first sample was taken. Note: PI animals must continue to be housed separately from the first test.

There will be further changes introduced from February 2026. For more info please go to https://www.gov.scot/publications/bovine-viral-diarrhoea-bvd/
Or ask to speak to one of our vets.
