Abingdon (Pet) Dog Training Club (ADTC) is a non-profit organisation serving the local community. We adopt an atmosphere of stress free training for both the canine and handler with such flexibility within our modular training plan so as to cater for all levels of experience, breed types and minor behavioural issues. We actively encourage social interaction with our members and organize activity evenings and social gatherings, which include our ‘four legged friends’.

🐾 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 & 𝗝𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗽 🐾

Does your dog greet people with a little too much enthusiasm (aka, jumping up)? It’s a common behavior, but the good news is, you can teach polite greetings with consistency and patience!

✨ 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀:
✅ 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺 – Excitement fuels jumping! Ask visitors (and yourself) to stay quiet and relaxed during greetings.
✅ 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘄𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿 – The second your dog sits or stands politely, mark it with a “yes!” and reward with a treat or attention.
✅ 𝗜𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽 – No eye contact, no talking, no touching until paws are down. Attention (even negative) can reinforce the behavior.
✅ 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 – Set up controlled greeting sessions so your dog learns what’s expected, rather than practicing the wrong habit.
✅ 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 – As your dog approaches, toss a few treats on the floor. Sniffing and eating keeps paws down and helps them stay calm while guests come in. (Best for single-dog greetings to avoid food scuffles!)
✅ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆 – Make sure the whole family (and your visitors) follow the same rules.

With practice, your pup will learn that polite greetings = love and rewards, while jumping = no attention. 🐾🐕

🚨 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 🚨

Summer fun can turn dangerous for our dogs if we’re not careful. 🐶☀️

Dogs can’t cool down like we do and heatstroke can happen fast.

⚠️ 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲:
• Excessive panting or drooling
• Lethargy or weakness
• Red gums or tongue
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Collapse or confusion

🔥 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀:
• Walk early morning or late evening 🌅🌙
• Provide shade & fresh water at all times 💧
• Never leave dogs in cars, even for “just a minute” 🚗❌
• Avoid hot pavement (if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws) 🐾

🚑 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲:
1️⃣ Move your dog to a cool, shaded area
2️⃣ Offer small amounts of cool (not icy) water
3️⃣ Wet their body with cool water, especially belly, paws, armpits
4️⃣ Call your vet immediately

☀️ Let’s keep our pups safe, cool, and happy all summer long!
