๐Ÿ“ข People are still walking dogs and leaving them shut in cars in this heat! I can't believe people are so stupid. Common sense should tell you this is DANGEROUS and potentially FATAL for your dogs.

โš ๏ธ This awareness is for all pets, especially rabbits, who still get shoved in a hutch. They can die if not in a properly shaded area. Hutch's get VERY HOT ๐Ÿ”ฅ You can place a bottle of frozen water into their living space for them to lie down next to, and help to keep them cool. ๐Ÿฐ ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿถ HEATSTROKE IN DOGS: What Every Pet Owner Needs to Know ๐Ÿถโ˜€๏ธ

Hot weather isnโ€™t just uncomfortable for dogs โ€” it can be deadly. Heatstroke can hit fast and hard. Letโ€™s keep our furry friends safe this summer! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ”Ÿ Must-Know Facts About Heatstroke in Dogs:

1๏ธโƒฃ Dogs donโ€™t sweat like humans โ€” they cool down mainly by panting.

2๏ธโƒฃ Heatstroke can kill in minutes. Please donโ€™t risk it.

3๏ธโƒฃ Early signs include: excessive panting, drooling, red or pale gums, a fast heartbeat, lethargy, and weakness.

Restlessness or Agitation: Your dog may seem anxious, restless, or unable to settle down, pacing, seeking shade or water.

Disorientation and Stumbling: They may seem confused, unsteady on their feet, or have difficulty maintaining balance.

4๏ธโƒฃ Danger signs: vomiting, collapse, seizures โ€” seek emergency help.

Seizures: These are a severe symptom and require immediate veterinary attention.

Collapse: If your dog collapses, it's a critical emergency.

5๏ธโƒฃ Flat-faced breeds (Brachycephalic ,like Bulldogs & Pugs) are more at risk. As are elderly and overweight dogs.

6๏ธโƒฃ NEVER leave a dog in a car โ€” even for a few minutes. They can DIE! FAST!

7๏ธโƒฃ Pavement burns paws. Do the โ€œhand testโ€ before walking. Lay the back of your hand onto the pavement. If you can't hold your hand there for 5 seconds, it's far too HOT for your dog's paws.

8๏ธโƒฃ Keep your dog hydrated โ€” always bring water on walks.

9๏ธโƒฃ Walk early in the morning or late evening โ€” avoid peak heat. It's deadly and WILL kill your dog.

๐Ÿ”Ÿ Cool your dog with cool (not ice-cold) water if they overheat. โš ๏ธIce cold water can cause your dog to go into shock โ€” focus on the neck, paws, tummy, and underarms.

๐Ÿ“Get the dog out of the heat source and into a shaded area.

๐Ÿ“Use a fan or air conditioning to circulate air and help the water evaporate, further cooling the dog.

๐Ÿ“ If the dog is conscious, offer small amounts of cool (not cold) water to drink.

Please THINK before taking your dog out. It's our job to keep them safe and out of harm's way. Common sense people. If ever in doubt just don't do it.

Let's enjoy the summer while it's here BE SAFE ๐ŸŒž

Despite the education that us dog professionals try to get across each year that dogs can suffer in the heat and that they can and do DIE from heatstroke (which comes on very rapidly by the way), people STILL put their dogs in discomfort and at risk by walking and exercising them in temperatures their dogs are not comfortable or safe in or leaving them in cars to overheat.

Whilst there is still some misinformation about how you should help a dog who has overheated going around (โŒ๏ธcover them with wet towels, โŒ๏ธcool their paws and โŒ๏ธ avoid cold water as it will cause shock), thankfully, I'm seeing more and more correct advice being given.

If a dog is too hot, you need to cool them QUICKLY!!!

HEATSTROKE IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY WHICH IF NOT TREATED IMMEDIATELY IS LIKELY TO BE FATAL!

โ€œThe key message for dog owners is to cool the dog quickly, using whatever water you have available provided the water is cooler than the dog. The longer a dogโ€™s body temperature remains elevated, the more damage can occur so the sooner you can stop the temperature rise and start cooling the better.

I obviously hope you'll never be in a situation where you have to do this but just in case you are, be prepared and read the CORRECT advice for cooling down a hot dog:

(If you can't immerse, keep pouring anything cold over the dog, use a hose, bottled water, cold soft drinks, even milk etc) (๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ง.
