As Mammal Society Mammal Week draws to a close we wanted to say how lucky we feel to be contributing to what is one of the most successful mammal recovery projects in Scotland, if not the UK. Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels staff past and present have brought expert knowledge, practical skills and huge dedication to the fight towards red squirrel recovery in Aberdeen (and further south) since 2009. The project in Aberdeen is so close to being able to confirm complete eradication of invasive non-native grey squirrels and this work has seen red squirrel populations across the city and surrounds continue to grow. Amazing work and the dogs and I are so proud to be just a small part of that!

A special shout out also to Conservation K9 Consultancy - who this wouldn’t have been possible without! 🐾

Ever wondered what it would be like to be a scent detection dog?

We joined Sika, and handler Libby, from Cairngorm Conservation Dogs to get a dog's eye view of searching for signs of grey squirrels.
