🎉🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KK9T 🎉🎉

Today marks 3 years of the business opening, I cannot thank everyone enough for their support and for their trust in allowing me to be part of their training journey with their dogs 💜

So much has been achieved in these three years, I became an accredited Canine Training Instructor and a qualified Animal Behaviour Technician, I’ve covered dog walking, home boarding, pet sits, cat sits, been part of fundraisers, achieved top 3 from ThreeBest ratings, hit 100 reviews and so much more.

Thank you to previous clients, existing and future clients for letting me be part of their journey!

Training team 😍😍😍
The last two weeks have been crazy busy, last week I was on reduced hours trying to fight against some fatigue but back this week, on full hours with a bang 👏🏼
We’ve seen some ongoing team members and welcomed some new members, I can’t wait to keep watching the progress the existing team make and I can’t wait to see what we achieve with the newbies on the team, I already have one newbie making lots of progress with a couple bits that were changed during our consultation so I’m looking forward to this!

Onto another busy week next week and welcoming the new adolescent block 👏🏼👏🏼

And that’s another adolescent block finished, bittersweet tonight as this has been another truly fantastic group to work with, with yet again so much noticeable progress being made from week 1 to week 5! Lots of happy owners, happy doggos and a very proud trainer 🙌🏼👏🏼

When I started thinking on the idea of starting these classes, I was told they would be chaos, but 3 groups later and I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever, I am loving these classes 💜

Looking forward to greeting my next group next week 🥺

Proofing your dog’s commands is so important, it ensures they actually understand what you’re asking them to do rather than getting used to your tone of voice, body language or environmental cues. Proofing your commands with your dog matters! * It helps avoid any misunderstandings. Dogs are great at understanding context, rather than human words. For example, if you give your dog a wait command at the front door, but then suddenly ask them to do it while on a walk, they are unlikely to understand, which in turn can set them up to fail, which we never want to do. Proofing ensures they understand regardless of the environment or situation. * It prepares your dog for real life scenarios. You need your dog to listen when it counts, it comes down to safety! * If your dog has proofed commands in different environments and contexts, it reduces frustration for both you and them, which leads to a better relationship and bond. * Improved reliability = more experiences for your dogs! By practising in different environments, around different contexts, around different people, by saying other words before giving your dog the real command helps build reliable obedience, which in turn means your dog gets to experience more with you! In this video, you can see this boys muscles twitching as he hears what I’m saying, then as soon as he hears his actual break command, he moves, this is all part of proofing the behaviour and ensuring he is actually listening to me, rather than paying attention to patterns surrounding the behaviour.

Do you have a break command for when you transition from your dog walking loosely on a lead, engaging with you, to when you’re happy for them to go be free, sniff and be a dog? This is something I am diving into a lot with some of my current clients at the moment. When we are doing loose lead walking; and have our dogs in “training mode”, this is taxing for them, it takes a lot of focus, concentration and impulse control as they’re resisting exploring their environment which is a natural instinct for them. We can’t expect our dogs to give us their focus and attention all the time, without giving them something in return, and this something is free time! Having a break command to clearly communicate with your dog that they are off duty and free to go do what they want to do will help your dog work with you, rather than against you and it will help reduce frustration! Meet them half way, don’t expect them to “perform” all the time if you aren’t giving them time to pursue their natural instincts and to just be a dog!

Little special shoutout to this girl who turned 5 years old yesterday; and learnt a new skill on Monday night that we never thought she was going to get! 🎉🎊

We were trying to teach a lie down so we could progress onto teaching her down stays, as well as a settle, however she wasn’t understanding what we were trying to get her to do.
Down is typically taught with luring the dog down with a treat, however this girl just wasn’t understanding what she needed to do, so we adjusted things and used a different method of trying to teach down, and she nailed it within a couple of minutes!

I often hear people say things like their dog is too old to learn new things, this isn’t true! No dog is ever too old to learn new things, it may take a bit more time and patience than it would if it were a puppy, but all dogs can learn new things, in fact it’s a great way to boost mental enrichment which can be great when the weather is hot and physical enrichment is reduced, it’s good for building a bond with your dog, it’s good for their mental wellbeing, amongst other benefits! 🙌🏼

I couldn’t not share this post by the fantastic The Muzzle Movement page!
I couldn’t have explained trigger stacking better myself, this is an excellent post and extremely informative!

Have you ever noticed a time where your dog was trigger stacking?!
Pop it in the comments, let’s create more awareness about trigger stacking so we can help support our dogs to the best of our ability!

Some of my followers may know that back in February this year, I underwent surgery where I had hoped for a different outcome, but sadly, I was diagnosed with Endometriosis which is an incurable, chronic condition that effects my day to day life with symptoms effecting me daily, but varying in intensity.
I am taking part in the walk for endo challenge to raise money for Endometriosis UK, the challenge is to walk at least 8,000 steps per day as it takes on average 8 years for a diagnosis. I am aiming to walk at least 13,000 steps a day as I am joining this challenge late.

I would greatly appreciate any shares or donations to the cause.
Shares will greatly help raise more awareness for this condition and in return will help in raising more money to go towards funding research.

Help Kaela Innes raise money to support Endometriosis UK
