Remembering Fred 💙
Born 9th June 1992, he is the son of my 2nd pony named Tictac . She was very very special, and so is he. A well looked after horse can live into their 30’s. Tictac lived a good life to the age of 36. She was bought for me at the age of 6.
Fred travelled to Spain with our two other ponies. I was very worried about the long journey.
They arrived at a yard in Los Gallardos in a bright purple lorry.
All three of them jumped off the box, looking great. Fred had never seen open space with endless views. He came from woodlands, forests, so once in his paddock stood in the same position looking at the mountains.
He stayed at Livery for 2 years, whilst we were preparing his home here at Trex. He is our confidence giver. Anyone that has had a bad experience whilst riding, then Fred is your horse.
You will see how his colour has changed over the years. Born black & white turned grey! When he gets bathed and his skin is wet, you can still see his original patterns on his skin.
He’s very popular with the children and a good teacher. He loves his cuddles and being groomed. His kind nature , makes him the perfect model to teach grooming and about general horse care. Back when he was younger in the Uk, he let a goat eat his tail, from the other side of a fence, because he thought the goats were grooming him !!
He has had two traumas in his life time, the first at a very young age. He got colic and spent five days in the veterinary college at Newmarket, where they operated on removing a blockage from his belly. We were very lucky he was insured, it cost £1900. It was caused by him eating the acorns that had dropped onto the ground in the field where he lived .
The second trauma, I was on my way back from work and got a distressed call from Sadie ( a very special lady, she’s now all grown up, with her own family).
Just a teenager at the time, she had phoned to tell me that she witnessed a pit bull type dog had attacked Fred and he was in a bad way!! . Sadie was distraught!
I called the vet and we both got there as quickly as possible. He had bite marks in his hind leg and a zigzag tear on his front shoulder, that took 15 staples to put him back together. Sadie said the dog was being walked by a couple, the dog came onto our private land and chased Fred. He kicked the dog, instead of it running away it come back at him and attacked from the front! The owners managed to get the dog under control , saw the state Fred was in, standing blood all over. Saw how upset Sadie was, but quickly disappeared.
We never did find them !
They say horses don’t forget their traumas, but when you gain their trust, love and care for them for their life time, Freds proof that they can forget. He has no fear of dogs and the scars are just part of his past .
I could go on and on about Fred and his mummy Tictac, but I will leave it for another time .
Wishing you all a nice day 🤗 #💔
