nta Arabi Hippy Market backdate to the year 1973 when the management of the Hotel Club "Punta Arabi" offered the hippies to sell their handicrafts and products brought from different parts of the world for the few tourists staying in the club at that time. In the beginning, the market had only five stalls: Maggie with her delicious pastries, a lady from Formentera selling hand-knit sweaters made by wool from their own sheep, a boy selling puppies, children who exchanged toys, another person selling jewelry brought from India. In those early days the hippies put their stalls on the ground under the trees showing their products on draperies. Over the years this market has become an hotspot and a must for any visitor of Ibiza. The market now already has over 500 stalls and on wednesdays in August they cylcles several thousand people per day, enjoying the wonderful atmosphere in the garden area of the Club Punta Arabi..................

La belleza de Ibiza con sus mágicos y secretos rincones, su clima espectacular, la cordialidad de los ibicencos fue lo que cautivó a los hippies en los años sesenta y por lo que decidieron afincarse en la isla, aún desconocida para el turismo de masas. Los inicios del Hippy Market de Punta Arabí se remontan al año 1973 cuando la dirección del Hotel Club Punta Arabí les ofreció a los hippies afincados en la isla la posibilidad de vender sus productos artesanales o aquellos provenientes de diferentes partes del mundo, a los pocos turistas hospedados por aquel entonces en el Club. En sus inicios el mercadillo contaba con cinco únicos puestos: Maggie con sus deliciosos pasteles, una señora de Formentera que vendía jerseys tejidos a mano con la lana de sus propias ovejas, un chico vendiendo cachorritos, unos niños que intercambiaban juguetes y otra persona vendiendo joyas traídas de la India. En esos primeros días los hippies montaban sus puestos de venta sobre el suelo, debajo de los árboles presentando sus productos sobre pañuelos. Con los años este mercadillo se ha convertido en el modo de subsistencia para muchas familias de la isla, así como un lugar de paso obligado para todo visitante de Ibiza. El mercadillo ya cuenta con más de 500 puestos y los miércoles de agosto pasan por ellos varios miles de personas, disfrutando de su ambiente en la maravillosa zona ajardinada del Club Punta Arabí.
