What happens when you arrive at the clinic? 🐴📍

Here’s what to expect on the day of admission:

1️⃣ Check-in at reception
Bring your horse’s passport and any required documents. If a treatment agreement was sent to you in advance, sending it back by email can help speed up the process.

2️⃣ Initial consultation
You’ll meet with the clinic team to go over your horse’s medical history, current symptoms, and any specific needs.

3️⃣ Stable and examination
Your horse will be brought to its stable, settled in, and the first examination will begin, so treatment can get underway quickly and calmly.

Our goal is to make the experience as smooth and stress-free as possible, for both horse and owner.

Preparing for your horse’s clinic stay? 🧾🐴
A little planning goes a long way—here’s what to keep in mind:

📦 What to bring:
- Medications or special feed (with dosage instructions)
- Cooler or rain sheet (weather-dependent)
- Paddock gear like fly masks or boots

🗂️ Important documents:
- Equine passport (mandatory for transport)
- Vaccination records, deworming history, prior findings
- Referral letter from your regular vet (if applicable)
- Diagnostic images or reports
- Surgical insurance papers (if needed)
- Completed treatment agreement – if offered digitally, please email it in advance to speed up check-in

🐎 Before arrival:
- Practice calm loading in the weeks before
- Allow plenty of time on the day to reduce stress

📋 Info to share with the team:
- Name, age, breed, s*x
- Feeding habits & allergies
- Behavioral notes (e.g. spooky, sensitive)
- Relevant medical history

📍 Upon arrival:
- Check in at reception
- Review all important details with the clinic staff
- Your horse will be settled in and examined shortly after

⏰ Visiting hours:
- Each clinic has fixed times—check ahead and respect quiet periods to support recovery.

Letting horses be horses — even during & after treatment 🌿

Many Altano clinics offer outdoor paddocks for patients who are ready to spend some time outside. This is a valuable part of the recovery process.

Fresh air, space to move, and natural light help reduce stress, support circulation, and promote healing, especially in longer stays.

Veterinary care doesn’t end in the treatment room. It continues in every detail of how we look after our patients.

A deeper look: how CT imaging improves equine diagnostics 🔍

Modern computed tomography (CT) plays a crucial role in identifying injuries and internal changes that are hard to detect with conventional imaging.

At many Altano clinics, CT technology allows our teams to evaluate bones, joints, and soft tissues in detail, helping us make faster, more accurate diagnoses and define the best treatment path.

We’re also proud to work with the latest generation of CT systems in several clinics, featuring a larger gantry that enables even more imaging to be performed on standing horses. This reduces the need for full anesthesia and makes diagnostics safer and more efficient.

👨‍⚕️ Meet Wout Belien — one of the dedicated equine veterinarians at Via Nova, part of the Altano Group.
With a strong focus on Veterinarian Orthopedics, Wout brings both exceptional expertise and a deep passion for horses to his work every day.

After graduation, Wout got to work at the mobile practice of Marc Suls until he joined Via Nova in 2023 where he now works closely with Cedric Boqué, Head of Orthopedics. Wout’s approach combines clinical precision with a real understanding of the needs of athletic horses and their owners. 🐴

Through continuous learning, collaboration with colleagues across Europe, and a strong belief in patient-centered care, he strives to make a lasting difference — helping every horse recover, perform and just live at their best.

Meet Dr. Ariane Campos — surgical excellence and international experience in equine care. 👩‍⚕️

Dr. Ariane Campos from Clinique de Grosbois (France) is part of Altano’s strong international community. After studying veterinary medicine in Hannover, she gained extensive clinical experience at renowned equine hospitals in the USA, Belgium and Germany.

And did you know that Ariane has also successfully passed the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) Diploma — the highest recognized specialist qualification in equine surgery in Europe? We couldn’t be prouder of this special achievement.

Particularly interested in laryngeal surgeries and fracture repair, she travels regularly to share knowledge, perform specialized surgeries, and strengthen connections within the Altano community and beyond. 🐴
